All Gargoyles characters are the property of Disney and Buena Vista
television. Other characters not appearing the show are from the TGS
stories. But some of the characters are of my own invention.
To understand this it would be helpful to have read at least some (alright, LOTS) of the TGS series. 'Cause lots of the stuff happening in here only makes sense if you already know the characters.
Lexington was working on his computer, at least he was trying to. But he was unable to concentrate. It might have been that he was looking forward to the trip he and several others of his clan would be taking to meet with the London Clan. It might also have been because Graeme kept sneaking up behind him and asking if he was done with the computer yet. Whether it was the one or the other, or a combination of both, or possibly because he had realized that his talons had reduced his key board to a pile of junk, but whatever it was he found it impossible to concentrate.
The only other occupants of the gargoyle's living area were Hudson and Bronx, who were so much of a given that they were often simply considered part of the furniture, and Graeme and Ariana who were planning what they intended to take on their trip.
All the arrangements towards planning the meeting had been made by Sata, who was, although she did not show it, anxious that her children were able to interact more with gargoyles of their age. All the other arrangements had been made by Xanatos, which included financing the transport of six gargoyles to England. They would take the same jet that they had used when they were bringing aid to the gargoyle clans that had been less prepared during the second Unseelie war.
Tonight was the night before they left, the trip had to be timed so that they arrived in London with plenty of time to reach the Into the Mystic shop run by the english gargoyles Una and Leo, so they were to leave first thing the next night and would arrive a few hours before sunrise. Thanks to the incredible speed of Xanatos' jet the trip would only take a few hours, but thanks to the time difference they would loose five hours.
Those of the clan going were Graeme and his twin sister Ariana along with Nudnik. The adult clan members were Sata, who intended to not let the children miss a Bushido lesson (much to the despair of the twins), Angela, who was already a good friend of the London Clan, and Lexington, who had a personal reason for going.
One of Brooklyn's main concerns were whether they could afford to send three of their warriors off and whether that was a good idea under the current circumstances. But there was another reason that both he and Broadway share, and it had nothing to do with protecting the city. But since their second reason was not valid, and since they had the Labyrinth Clan to help them out, their objections were overruled and were sentenced to several weeks of separation from their mates. As Brooklyn muttered, he wouldn't mind the kids going of to London for several weeks, but if Sata went it took all the fun.
Lexington felt a tap on his shoulder, "Yes Graeme I'm done now," he said without turning around.
Lexington signed off the computer and left it to Graeme. He picked up a book he had been reading and went over to sit in one of the chairs by the TV. He soon became engrossed in his reading and became oblivious to his surroundings.
An hour before sunrise the rest of the clan began to arrive in the living area. The brunt of the details had already been discussed several days earlier, but Goliath had wanted to go over several of the details before they left. When the large lavender leader of the Manhattan Clan arrived, along with Elisa who had been spending more of her than before ever since she became Goliath's mate, most of his clan were already there, except for Angela and Broadway who arrived only a few minutes later, both flushed and out of breath.
"I'm sorry," Angela apologized, "we were in the––umm––library." She and her mate hurried in and took the nearest available seat.
"Well," said Goliath, stepping in front of his clan, "from what Sata told me everything has been arranged for the journey to England. So I guess there is very little for me to say."
"Then why did you make us gather together like this?" Lexington questioned.
"I needed my ego fix," said Goliath, sighing contendtedly.
"And I thought I was supposed to be the one with the strange sense of humor," Brooklyn whispered to his mate.
Sata rolled her eyes, "That would make three, Goliath, Xanatos, and you."
Goliath had either not heard his clanmates' comments, or he didn't care. But truth was that ever since Goliath and Elisa had mated the large gargoyle had been a changed, well, gargoyle.
"There is just one thing," Sata said, "have you spoken to Xanatos about the transport?"
Goliath shifted his weight slightly to the other leg, "Good that you mentioned that, I almost forgot that I was supposed to make sure that you were ready to go first thing tomorrow night. You need to leave early if you want to make it to Xanatos' private landing field in London." He scratched his head, "He said the flight only takes two hours, but that you lost time on the flight."
Lexington nodded, "Yeah, we should be getting there at around five in the morning, I already asked him about it this morning."
"Well," said Goliath, standing up, "It is almost dawn." He turned to Elisa, "I still have time to carry you home if you want me to, my love."
Elisa smiled, "Thanks big guy, but I've got another free day tomorrow night, so I'll sleep her today. That way you don't have to wait for me to get here to say goodbye to the travelers."
The rest of the clan had already left for their places on the parapets when Goliath and Elisa went up towards Goliath's tower together.
OK, I know this is dull, and the second chapter isn't going to be much better. But bear with me for a moment, it'll get better, I promise.
