Hawkfrost gave Brambleclaw a vicious nudge.
"This is your chance! Kill him! Kill him now!"
Firestar looked up at the two toms, Tigerstar's sons. He imagined his mortal enemy standing with them too, cheering them on. He knew that Brambleclaw would never do this to him, being a loyal warrior and deputy, proving it countless times. However, there was a nagging feeling that told Firestar that Brambleclaw was considering this idea of tightening the trap and killing him. He prayed to StarClan he would choose the right path.
Brambleclaw sighed and unsheathed his claws. He knew deep down that this was the wrong choice. He knew that if he worked hard enough as deputy. once Firestar retired he would take his place. But StarClan knows how long that would take, he whispered to himself. If you do it now, you'll be leader, and you could take over WindClan, just as Hawkfrost suggested. All that power...

Brambleclaw clamped his eyes shut but the temptation was too high. He'd hate himself if he let this opportunity pass by.

"I-I'm sorry, Firestar. This is something I have to do," Brambleclaw mewed finally, before hooking his claw around the loop of wire that tightened the trap and yanking it hard. He could hear Firestar's wince as the sharp metal teeth of the trap found their marks in his neck. He heard the shallow whines and breaths as Firestar lost one life, then another, then another. Six lives suddenly ripped from the ginger tom, and as he convulsed in the trap, Brambleclaw saw the leader give him a look of pure disappointment, one that cut through Brambleclaw like cold water.

He thought I wouldn't do it, he whispered to himself. He thought I was better than my father.

He was wrong, a new voice echoed through his thoughts.

"Jaypaw! Wake up, Jaypaw. It's training time!" Breezepaw batted Jawpaw with sheathed claws, but Jaypaw wouldn't budge. Breezepaw rolled his eyes.
"I know you're awake, Jaypaw! Stop being so lazy! We've got stuff to do!" When Jaypaw didn't answer, Breezepaw hissed quietly. "Fine then, be like that," and he stalked out of the apprentice's den.

A few heartbeats later Jaypaw bolted up, breathing heavily.

What do you mean, the power of StarClan is in my paws?

He laughed to himself.

StarClan isn't real.

AN: Hi guys! So this was just the start of something I wanted to try out because I just re-read Sunset yesterday and I thought, what if Brambleclaw DID kill Firestar and got away with it? What would it mean for the clans? Would the power of it all get to him?

I also wanted to see some characters in a different way and almost change the entire story. Would the entire warrior code derail after Brambleclaw and Hawkfrost took over the clans? Who knows. At this point I'm just trying things out. Tell me what you think of this, and if there's a positive response, I'll start working on this as a serious story :))))
