The Kimerics
The Kimerics (Ki-Meer-ics) are an ancient but technically long dead race. They evolved on the planet Feligra in what is now known as the Chimera sector of this galaxy (the complete opposite side of the galaxy to Terra) and, having no physical, racial or religious differences, were able to increase their technical and scientific knowledge faster than other races, this was helped by their long life spans (at least 200 Terran years). They specialized in Magnetics, Aeronautics, Cybernetics, and Plasmatic technologies.
Their advancements in these fields gave them the ability to colonise other worlds in their system and wipe the race known as Multarias (so called for their multiple limbs) from the planets they landed on. The early Kimeric armies were armed with all manner of magnetic weapons, from rail pistols to massive, sub orbital, aerial rail cannons. The armour they developed has not been changed much over the millennia, it is constructed in layers, first a sheet of something close to adimantium, but more like titanium (maybe an alloy?) gave the base for the armoured clothes, next a layer of jiron crystal to protect against most physical impacts i.e. projectiles, and finally a ceramic layer to lessen the damage caused by heat i.e. laser based weaponry. A ceremonial Jironite blade was also part of standard pattern Kimeric Military uniform and still is to this day
During the second millennium of the Kimerics new rule over their entire system (500 suns with 290 inhabitable planets, 420 gas giant bases, 248 moon bases and 20 asteroid belt installations) the development in the field of Cybernetics took a steep upward slope on their progress graphs, the reason being that the Multarias had developed rudimentary spacecraft in the form of hollowed out asteroids from the belts equipped with short range propulsion engines. The Kimeric medical core had used the rudimentary cybernetics to replace lost limbs during the first Cleansings but these were unwieldy and not very efficient, but Cybernetics had come a long way since then and since the Multarias had developed projectile weaponry (Rippers and other shrapnel weapons) and considering the mindset of the Multarias, cause as much damage and pain as possible then leave victim for dead, the rate of partial troopers ending up in the med bays caused a great demand for Cybernetic Augmentations for such troopers so they could return to the battle field and exact vengeance on the Multarias.
After the second Cleansing of the Multarias the Cybernetics were being produced in such an amount that members of the public were able to buy Cybernetic Augmentations at a local Medical centre, although for the first 700 years of this set up only rich Kimerics could afford the Augmentations, and so the civilisation moved towards being more machine that organism, no more so than when the brain augmentations became available on the market after a 150 year period within the military, people flocked to Med centres and crammed the bays with teeming masses of Kimerics wanting enhances brain functions, during this period, a new form of medic was born, the Technic, one skilled in both healing of the flesh and repairing of the machine and as more and more Kimerics became Cyberneticly Augmented the Medic became a thing of the past as all Medics were now trained as Technics.
It was at around this point that the faction calling themselves the 'Pure Bloods' started to cause uproars and small skirmishes between 'Pure Bloods' and Law enforcement officers, by their dictations of the evils of Cybernetics, having no augmentations, and only recruiting from the small number of Kimerics that were still un-augmented, the 'Pure Bloods' caused riots and general unrest not seen for 3 Millenniums, not since the founding of the confederation and the election of the first, and last, president. That political ideal then fell into disfavour was replaced by a monarchy of sorts (the Imperia). The 'Pure Bloods' almost caused a civil war, recruiting every non-augmented Kimeric they could, even stooping to Kitt snatching (baby snatching) before they were expertly fooled into one place by the Emperor of that time, charged with treason and incitement to cause civil war and bundled into a star cruiser and exiled, but not before they fought with some of the military guards, almost 150 guards were killed and their equipment stolen. The 'Pure Bloods' now cruise the sectors, causing Havoc to the main body of the Kimerics, still with their exile ship as their flagship, the Golden Star, and they have bred exponentially during their 3 Millenniums of being adrift from the main body of the Kimeric Stellar Imperia and have developed their own technologies separate to those of the Planetbound and Spacebourn.
During the 5th Millennium of the Kimeric Stellar Imperia the technology was developed to harness the powers of super-heated plasma for a range of uses, weaponry, Star Drives, Vehicle engines and Power, to name a few. By now The Kimeric Imperia had run up against a problem with the Planetbound, the Kimeric army. They had so many Cybernetic Augmentations and implants that they had become sterile, and it had been found that Kitts from parent couplings that included one Planetbound grew up to be effective fighters in the army, but if the Planetbound were becoming sterile then the number of good fighters in the army would dwindle and diminish as the city dwelling aspect of the race thought little of the 'Boorish and barbaric methods' of the military, and their Kitts were raised with the same principals, so the Emperor, bonded to his Jiron throne, decided that something had to be done to prevent his defensive force from dwindling, especially as the Multarias had re-appeared, this time with significant advances in the forms of Bio- Engineering from an outside source and primitive Cybernetics, and there was also the threat from a race identifying themselves as 'True Eldar' that had begun skirmishes within Chimera sector. The Emperor had a brilliant idea, before his rise to power he had trained with the strange, detached, faction of the Kimerics known as the Pre-Searchers and had helped on certain projects to do with cloning. Although cloning was not possible there had been a few ways that a Kimeric could be replicated, and one of those included recording a Kimeric's personality and DNA sequence. The Pre- Searchers built an entire Cybernetic Kimeric, and for it's AI they used the personality copied from the volunteer, then used a particalisation system to rebuild his organic body around the Cybernetic Skeleton, but the heart was replaced with a Nanobot construction module and the blood stream was replaced by Nanobots in conservation fluid, that preformed the same functions as blood, but was faster and more efficient.
Through minor glitches in the system the personality was not replicated perfectly, therefore creating a new Kimeric entirely. The Emperor ordered that all Planetbound between the age of 50 & 150 have their personalities recorded, this lead to over 20,000,000 personalities to choose from and they were stored in 5 different personality banks. The process was not perfect however; one extreme case is when trooper C'ydi had his personality scanned. The scanner had a major glitch up and killed C'ydi, but still produced a recording. To honour the trooper who lost his life that personality was resurrected and was named C'ydi Ka, and actually became the greatest general the Planetbound had. C'ydi's personality was used two other times; the first opted into the Spacebourn and became a top fighter ace, scoring no less than 2,000 kills over his 2 Millenniums of service. The third use of C'ydi's personality had deadly and drastic consequences, it created the first, only, and most deadly serial Killer/Mass Murderer the Imperia had ever seen, D'rendi Ki, the twin personality Kimeric who murdered 163 Kimerics in one go, 72 of those being Law enforcement officers. D'rendi Ki then stole the Star cruiser Imperia Fury and disappeared. The ship was next seen under the name Black Murder and has been spotted in numerous, extremely violent attacks on all types of craft over the last 2 Millenniums.
Now, with attacks from the, now deadly, Multarias almost every orbit and the so called 'True Eldar' regularly the imperia can only hope that the two new races it has discovered will aid them, one is the Alpha Centurions, and the other, is the Grand Imperium of Mankind.
Glossary
Multarias – Multiple limbed, usually four arms four legs, creatures that have attacked the many times, evolving as they come, first they gained space travel and projectile weapons, then they were found to have been Bio-Engineered to no longer feel anything in their flesh i.e. pain.
Jiron – This mineral is found in abundant sources throughout Chimera sector. Found in a crystalline form it can be compresses to form the nigh indestructible metal, Jironite.
Jironite – This is the compressed, metal form of Jiron crystals. Nigh Indestructible.
