The day was August 12th. To anyone else, it was just a normal day, but for Eugene Fitzherbert is was something special. Today was his one year wedding anniversary to the love of his life, the sleeping princess next to him. He rolled over and smiled. God was she something. She was curled up in a ball with the covers wrapped tightly around her. Her brown hair had fallen in her face. Reaching out, Eugene brushed a lock from her face and kissed her forehead. Rapunzel stirred, but didn't awake. Good.

Sliding out of bed, he quickly got dressed and snuck out of the room. The sun had barely risen and normally Eugene would curse about being up this early, but today was special. And he was determined to make it special. Besides, Rapunzel would be up in an hour or so. She always seemed to wake up way too early.

After a few quick stops of picking up things and preparing for his surprise, Eugene was ready to surprise his wife. He crept into their chamber and laid the items on the table in the drawing room. Walking into the bed room, he jumped onto the bed next to Rapunzel and smiled. "Punzieeee, wake up!" He chuckled, shaking her gently. "C'mon! I have surprises for you!" He said, kissing her forehead.

Rapunzel opened her eyes and yawned. "Eugene, just a bit longer." She pleaded, giving him a pout.

Eugene shook his head. "No can do, doll. I have our day planned out and I don't want to ruin it by letting you sleep!" He replied, pulling the covers off the brunette. "Now, c'mon!"

Soon enough, Eugene had drug Rapunzel into the drawing room and she was sitting on the couch. Eugene stood in front of her, blocking her view of the table. "Now, now, as you know, today is our anniversary. " He began and Rapunzel nodded along as he spoke. "First, these are for you, m'lady." He said, handing her a bouquet of white and pink flowers.

Rapunzel took a sniff of the flowers and smiled. "Thank you, Eugene." She said, blushing a bit.

Eugene held his hands up. "Uh uh. That's not all." He said, reaching onto the table and handing her a (very) poorly wrapped gift.

Rapunzel took the present and opened it carefully. Her eyes widened and she held back a giggle. "Well, thank you Eugene." She said. In her hands, she held a poorly painted painting. It was of the two of them, lying in the grass together with lanterns surrounding them. They both looked like stick figures, but she could tell Eugene worked hard on it. "It's beautiful."

"I know you like art and stuff, so I decided to make you something." He grinned. Eugene was obviously proud of his hard work. Rapunzel didn't have the heart in her to laugh at it in front of him. Besides, it was kind of cute. "Last, but not least, I give you this." Eugene smiled, handing her another poorly wrapped gift.

Rapunzel opened it to find a beautiful amethyst necklace in the shape of a heart. She gasped, her green eyes widening. "Oh Eugene! It's gorgeous!" She giggled, carefully sitting it on the couch next to her as she jumped up and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Thank you, Eugene."

Eugene smiled, feeling extremely content with her reaction to his presents. "Happy Anniversary, Rapunzel." He said, kissing her forehead softly.

"Happy Anniversary, Eugene."
