Happy New Year, Yoda

Author's Note: This is a short vignette in the setting of Trials of the Heart: Part One. I recommend you read Trials first as it contains the history of the two characters. But if you don't want to, you don't have to. For those of you who want a bit more closure to Trials, or who just want to read Qui mush. (And no, I own nothing from Star Wars (Jaydn is mine though!). The only things I want are Han, Obi and Qui. It's all I ask, George, really.)

Two figures huddled close together on a bench in the Healing Gardens. The Gardens were darkening as the sun set. Jaydn had to remind herself that they were inside and that the effect was caused by the hidden light banks suspended above. She didn't care though. Real or not, the sunset had a calming effect on her nerves.

"Welcome home," whispered the figure next to her. She looked up into the face of her love, Qui-Gon Jinn. Her head rested against his broad chest and his powerful arms were wrapped so gently around her. She felt safe and protected for the first time in years.

She smiled softly, absently running her fingers through the hair that lay across his shoulders. He bent his head and kissed her forehead. Somewhere in the distance she heard the Temple bell chime. The sound repeated until it had tolled twelve times. She turned to face her love. "Happy New Year, Qui-Gon."

She brought her lips to his, kissing him tenderly. His hand came up to the back of her head, drawing her deeper and deeper into the kiss. They broke the kiss briefly and Qui-Gon nuzzled his face against Jaydn's. "Happy New Year, love," he whispered in her ear.

A small rustle came from the bushes across from them, disrupting their intimacy. Jaydn noticed a pointy green ear jutting out from the foliage. "Master Yoda?"

A wrinkled green face joined the ear, and if the small alien could have blushed, Jaydn was sure he would have been. After a moment, he stepped onto the path. "Looking for my gimmer stick, I was," he explained. "Left it here I must have."

Qui-Gon tried not to laugh. The Jedi Master had finally been caught in the act of eavesdropping on them. Their romance was not approved of by the Council, especially after what Jaydn had done. But she had been reinstated as a Jedi for nearly a year now, and had regained the trust of many of the Jedi. But not Master Yoda. "Of course, Master. It's easy to misplace things here, isn't it?"

The little alien harumphed, turning on his heel to exit the Gardens with what was left of his pride, muttering to himself. Before he was out of earshot, Jaydn called out to him, "Happy New Year, Master Yoda!"

He turned back briefly and granted them with a rare smile. "Happy it is, Jaydn, when Jedi find lost daughters."

She smiled as well, wrapping an arm around Qui-Gon. "It is happy, isn't it?" He kissed her again, losing himself once more in the embrace.
