Green Plume
"I look ridiculous."
"It's not that bad."
"It is – I look like I should be in tights and a leotard."
"Okay, I don't know what they are but they sound irrational, now stop moving."
"How can I not move you're coming at me with a very sharp point."
"I will get you with it if you don't stop moving." I purse my lips and wait for Yuuri to stop wiggling on his stool and try again to attach the final piece to his outfit. "I don't know why you're complaining so much – you knew what you were agreeing to."
"No, I didn't – your mother confused me with all her baby talk and then went in for the kill." I frown and jab the point into his hat with a little too much force, making it pierce the material and hit his scalp. "Ouch! I didn't even move!"
"Then don't blame my mother." I pull the sharp object out of his hat and start to fix it properly again. "Besides, I think it's a nice idea."
"To embarrass me? Yeah, fantastic." I clench my jaw and 'accidentally' jab too hard again. "Ouch! Wolfram!"
I give him a sour look, making him shut his mouth. "I meant that it's nice that everyone wants to celebrate the fact that you're going to have an heir."
Yuuri frowns and tilts his head up to me, a confused look on his features. "That's what this is about?"
"Yuuri!" I hiss at him and jab into his hat again. "Do you listen to anyone?"
"I'm sorry, but there's been a lot of baby talk and you're only a few weeks pregnant! How am I supposed to keep up?" I don't realise that I'm holding the point into his scalp until he ducks his head away and takes it from me. "You know what? I'm doing it myself."
I shrug my shoulders and step back, taking in his attire. It's not that bad – I suppose it must look worse to him, having grown up with a different kind of acceptable fashion. Then again, even to us in Shin Makoku it's considered fancy dress – what with his tight beige britches and long black boots, as well as his ruffled white shirt and long red coat over the top. It is the last item that had Yuuri describe himself as a 'highwayman' – I didn't really understand why, seeing as, here, highwaymen are considered rogues, but he said that, on Earth, they are portrayed in a romantic light. It is a black wide-brim hat with one side pinned to the middle piece – soon there will be a long green plume stuck into the fold; the item that, until a few seconds ago, I had been trying to fix in place.
The green plume will protrude backwards out of his hat proudly, it's flamboyancy showing the world that this king will not hide who he is – he is here to shine. That is the plan anyway – Yuuri just can't help but to complain and be awkward. "Must you mar the message?"
He sighs, finally setting the plume in place. "No, I won't when everyone arrives. What are you wearing?"
I make sure that his costume is fully in place. "Good, because a lot of people have travelled a long way to see us." I nod, satisfied that he is ready. "And I'm wearing this – costume is optional."
"What?"
Hope you liked it ;)
