Forever That Lasts For A Day

Prologue

Katniss's POV

9 years earlier…

Today is just another boring day.

But, then he arrives.

New kid and all, nobody knows him much.

Golden hair and those gorgeous blue eyes, with a broad frame that can rival the wrestling coach's, all the girls swoon when he walks in.

As his gorgeous blue eyes lock on my dull grey ones, right at that moment I knew.

I've fallen in his spell.

"Hi." A voice interrupts my conversation with Madge and Delly. I turn around and face the new guy. I blush and Madge grins. Delly simply looks up and then a huge grin breaks out in her face.

"Oh! You must be Peeta. I'm Madge and this is Katniss." Madge says.

"I'm Delly." Delly says.

"Is this seat taken?" He asks and points to the seat beside me. I open my mouth and reply.

"Um, it's–" Madge interrupts me.

"No! Not at all, you can sit there." She casually tells him. Peeta nods and sits beside me. As soon as he does, I feel an electric current running between us. Madge and Delly giggle as I glare at them.

As his blue eyes lock onto mine,

I fall in love all over again.

6 years later…

I cross my legs and pretend to listen to Mr. Wallace's explanation, but Peeta keeps passing notes. I sigh and unfold the note as he turns sideways and gives me a crooked grin, and I swear my insides melt.

Are you up for Finnick's party this Friday night?

I sigh and give him a look that spells "Are you serious?"

Probably. Finn's been bugging me about it. You?

I toss it in his lap. He reads it and writes. Tossing it back, he returns to the lesson.

Sounds like him. I'm sure I'll be able to convince you.

I sigh and write down my reply.

Fine, but you have to catch me first. I'm a fast runner you know?

I toss it to him and he grins as he reads my flirtatious reply. He writes something and hands it to me.

I always catch my best friend. Always.

I grin and feel something tug my heart. I look at the best friend and sigh before keeping it and returning to the lesson.

I've run after him a lot of times already. It's time for him to run after me this time.

And right at that moment, the tiny seed of hope that Peeta Mellark will love me disappears into a world of gloom.

It disappears with the cheerful, fun-loving and friendly Katniss Everdeen too.

And it gets replaced with the sulky, snappy and irritable Katniss Everdeen.

He looks at me with happiness shining in his eyes.

But, I know that the only things he will see in my eyes are sadness, despair and hurt.

And that ends the prologue. They'll be 16 in the next chapter and in this chapter, the first part they are 9 and then the second, 15.

Katniss has always loved Peeta, but does he love her?

Unrequited love is a subject I do understand. It's hard to know that the person you like doesn't even like you back.

Maroon 5's "One More Night" is one of my favorite songs. It's really good. I think it fits the chapter. Do you?
