My Styrofoam Cup

Santana sighs as she sits down in front of her dresser and looks at herself in the mirror. She just sits and stares at herself for a few moments, taking in the new wrinkles on her forehead that weren't there five years ago and the frown lines that are now prominent around her mouth. She closes her eyes and breathes in deeply, calming herself. She opens her eyes and looks down to find her blush. As she searches, her gaze falls on a styrofoam cup that sits next to a picture of her wife, her beautiful wife, Brittany.
She reaches out, her hand hovering over the cup. She hadn't tried it in so long. Why hadn't she tried it in so long? Her eyes flicker closed as her fingers grip the bottom of the cup. The string trails along limply behind it as she lifts it up to her ear. Santana opens her eyes and casts her gaze to the picture of her wife on the dresser. She sits and waits for the vibrations, though she knows they will never come. There is no second cup attached to the other end of the string. It's long gone. Just like her wife. It's been five years. She should know better by now. She's been repeating this act every couple of months for the past five years and nothing has ever changed. It's always been silent. But Santana knows Brittany is out there, watching over her. So she pretends. She begins to softly hum the tune to 'My Cup'. Tears pool in her eyes as she imagines a beaming Brittany on the other end.
After ten minutes Santana sets the cup down. She has to finish her makeup now or she would be late. Brittany always hated it when she was late. This is what would be their 10th anniversary dinner and Santana wasn't going to be late this time. She wipes away the tears, and begins on her eye makeup. For the past five years Brittany is the reason why Santana would always leave her eye makeup until last.
