Prologue: Wouldn't It Be Nice?
Greg watched them, they were magnificent and magical but he doesn't always see it that way. Sometimes he forgets just what they are even though the constant reminders are there. Sometimes he sees a family that he wishes he could be a part of. He see's sisters for his son, sisters that took up to raising him because he isn't part of their world...he can't be. 'Steven wouldn't think that though, he's too nice.' Greg knows this and that's what hurts. He smiled as Steven played around the temple ground like the kid he was supposed to be with Amethyst chasing him around morphed as huge monster that would frighten any towns person but to Steven it's all a game. It's in a moment like that when Greg see's the Crystal Gems and his son as a family that he's left out of, a family where Steven would be the little brother and Amethyst would be the fun big sister. Greg sighed and looked to the left of the temple to see remnants of the ship that crashed.
He's reminded of the alien race that kidnapped his son and imprisoned him, he was also reminded that Steven helped to save the other Gems that were captured. It's in that moment that remembers that though he wants to be there for his son with the Gems, that he can't. He's not a super-powered alien with magical gifts, he can hardly relate to his son and what he's gone through in his short life so far. Right now his son is a happy child that loves him and that loves spending time with him, playing music, games, listening to stories. He knows that in the moment he can still be a father to his son but when will it end? Will Steven always show so much of his human half? He didn't like thinking of his son like this, he'd rather think that his son will always love him and be there with him but he can't always be sure.
He smiles when he sees Steven laugh with Amethyst as she tackled him to the ground, rolling around and pinning him to the beach sands before rolling off of him and onto her back with Steven to her right, their arms spread out to their sides. Seeing this he knows one thing: he doesn't know. Greg doesn't know how things will turn out, he doesn't know when danger will next strike his son and the rest of the Gems, he doesn't know what other dangers are out there that will target his son and the rest of the planet but he is confident that Steven and The Crystal Gems can handle it.
Steven lifted his head from it's position on the sand as he saw his father. "Dad! You're missing out! C'mon!" He shouted out to his father, laughing between his words.
"Sure thing!" He called back as he moved to join his son, diving on his back next to his son, laughing with him.
When Steven opened his eyes he looked up to the sky, noticing it had turned dark. He sighed happily, he loved the days that he spent playing with his dad or the gems. Steven began to move from his position on the beach floor that he had dozed off on, turning his back to the ocean before hearing a cry.
"Steven!" He turned his head around to see just the ocean staring back at him, he turned back and began to walk before he heard it again.
"Steven!" This time Steven jumped scared and began running back to the temple, "Pearl! Garnet! Amethyst! The ocean is screaming my name!" He shouted repeatedly as he ran up the Temple steps to his home.
