The Batman
Chapter 1
I run down the street as fast as I can, hoping to avoid the Joker. He has been after me ever since the party where I defended Rachel, my best friend. I hit a wall and fall onto the ground, coughing.
"Cheer up beautiful!" The Joker tells me, pushing away a stray lock of my brown hair.
"Get away from me" I spit, angry and afraid of what he will do.
"Sorry, but I'm afraid I can't. You and your friends are going to play a little game with me. I call it: See which friend the others will save when those friends are put in mortal danger. Basically I'm going to let your friends choose whether you live or die" he says, smiling like a madman. He walks over to another one of the clowns and motions to me. The clown grabs me and handcuffs me, and then they throw me into the truck.
When I come to about an hour later, I'm in a dark, dank warehouse attached to oil drums. I am going to die, there's no way out of this, I keep telling myself.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" Harvey's voice asks.
"Harvey! Oh thank god someone is here! Where are you?" I ask, staring into the looming darkness. Then something catches my attention. It is a small, square, black object with a timer on it. The timer says 51 seconds. Huh. I wonder what it means…. Holy shit! It's the time until the explosives go off!
"I'm right here. I'm attached to some oil drums. What about you?" he shouts back, his voice somewhat relieved.
"Same. Hey, where's Rachel, Harvey?" I call, now very worried. What if she is in another warehouse with the same situation? I really hate the Joker. He just thinks he can push us around because he has bombs. Well, he can't push me around. I won't listen to his demands any more.
"I haven't seen her since this morning. I was on my way to a date with her when I was kidnapped." He informs me. So Rachel is either safe or she's strapped to explosives just like us. She may even be dead already, a small but insistent voice inside my head keeps telling me. Then I hear noise coming out of the device with the trigger in it.
"Hello? Is anyone there? Hello?" Rachel's voice asks frantically.
"Oh my god! Rachel! Where are you?" I ask, eager to talk to her. The clock is ticking and I want to talk to someone before I die. I glance at the ticking time-bomb and see that there are only 27 seconds left.
"Rachel! Where are you?" Harvey calls into the box.
"Sarah? Harvey? What's happening?" She asks.
"We're strapped to oil bombs! How about you?" I ask.
"The same. We're gonna blow up aren't we?" she asks. I can hear her crying over the speaker.
"Rachel, we're not gonna blow up. They're coming for you" Harvey and I reassure her.
"I know but I don't want them to!" she begs. Harvey begins trying to move his chair and ends up falling over. The oil begins spilling, coating his face in hot, sticky, oil. He sputters and inhales some of the substance.
"Harvey!" I scream, trying to get to him. It is useless, my chair is the only one tied down. The door bursts open and Harvey starts screaming. They didn't go after Rachel, they went after us. Batman runs over to Harvey who is screaming his head off. When he is lifted up I can see why he is screaming, his face is on fire. Batman beings leaving and I scream, trying to get out. The chair flips over and I land in the fire. My bonds get burnt off and, once free, I run towards the exit only to find it blocked. I am trapped. Batman didn't even care enough to rescue me. The heat is overwhelming my body and I fall down. Then the door bursts open and someone grabs me. I black out as they leave the building.
