Lily Potter was not scared to come to Hogwarts. In fact she had two brothers and more than enough cousins at the school to look after her. But it wasn't that she was worried about, it was her sorting. Yes, you may say her parents were in Gryffindor, which they were, along with most of her family. But what if she was different, like Albus, what if she didn't fit in at all? Her thoughts were interrupted as Professor Longbottom started speaking.

"You will be sorted into either Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff or Slytherin. Your house will be your family and points you earn will contribute to your house's total. Now follow me!"

Everyone followed including Lily, with Hugo close behind. As they walked into the hall Lily tried to catch her brother's attention. There was Albus sitting with Scorpius at the Slytherin table, and she could see James in deep conversation with Fred at the Gryffindor table. They both, however, looked up when she came in with a smile and wave.

"When you hear your name come and sit on the stool and I will place this hat on your head." Announced Professor Longbottom.

One by one students were called up each looking more frightened than the previous. 'Oliver Corner' was placed in Ravenclaw as soon as the hat touched his head, while 'Frank Longbottom', who she knew because he was Professor Longbottom's son, was sorted in to Gryffindor. Soon it was her turn.

"Lily Potter"

You would've thought people had got used to living around Potters and Weasleys since so many of them were at Hogwarts, but apparently not. All eyes were on her as she perched herself on the old stool and the hat was placed on her head.

'ANOTHER POTTER!'

'Yes! What's so bad about that?' thought Lily indignantly.

'NOTHING! NOTHING AT ALL. SO WHAT HOUSE DO YOU WANT TO BE IN?'

'What! You're meant to decide that!'

'YES, BUT I LIKE TO GET YOUR OPINION AND ANYWAY THAT RULES ONE HOUSE OUT.'

'Which one?'

'HUFFLEPUFF, YOU LACK THE PATIENCE THAT THEY VALUE.'

'I didn't think I would be in Hufflepuff. James said I would be Gryffindor or Ravenclaw.'

'DID HE NOW. WELL IN THIS CASE I THINK HE MAY BE RIGHT. YOU WOULD FIT IN VERY WELL IN BOTH OF THOSE HOUSES'

'So which one…'

'I WAS GOING TO ASK YOU THAT.'

'I'd like both. It would be great to be with family and mum and dad would be proud, but I'd like to be in Ravenclaw too.'

'HMMMM, I THINK YOU WILL DO BEST IN GRYFFINDOR!'

He shouted the last word to the hall and there was a great shout of applause, led by James and Fred who were on the benches cheering. She quickly slipped off the stool and handed the hat carefully to the Professor before running to sit down with her new housemates. Albus caught her eye and grinned and she knew he was happy with her sorting. She had slipped out of attention mentally drafting a letter to her parents when she heard:

"Hugo Weasley"

He nervously sat down and jumped almost out of his seat when the hat spoke in his ear. Lily waited impatiently until the hat called 'GRYFFINDOR!' This time she was one of the first to jump up clapping.

Hugo came and sat with her and together they spent their first meal at Hogwarts happily chatting and stuffing themselves with food (which did not change in the years to come).

Later on Lily found herself lying in a comfy four-poster and she knew that Gryffindor was the right house for her.
