Sleepyhead

By SMYGO4EVA

Too good, too bitter, too successfully daunting to be repeated.

Sleepyhead.

Purple eyes and amethyst eyes blinked at the same time, black hair fell past her face and they walked into the similar room together.

Rei Hino and Hotaru Tomoe, known as Sailor Mars and Sailor Saturn, looked at each other apprehensively. The darkness inside the mausoleum seemed to flow around them like a tide in the ocean of doubt and uncertainty.

Rei took Hotaru's hand and threaded her fingers with her own, being especially careful not to hurt the frail girl.

"Are you sure about this, Hotaru-chan?" Rei whispered to her, her voice a little shaky of the events recognized before her.

Hotaru nodded. "I'm sure, Rei-san."

The senshi of Mars gulped silently and she led the soldier of Saturn to the catacomb before them. It was ironic, for the fearless goddess of war to be afraid of anything she wasn't supposed to be scared of, especially Death itself. However, the undying sense of suspicion and dread was coursing through her veins, so she kept the façade of audacity as her only mask for her cowardice.

Hotaru felt Rei's grip on her hand loosen as they approached the sepulcher stringed with webs and dripping with the rubies of blood. The girls shivered simultaneously at the sound of water-like jewels falling onto the ground; they then stepped up the stairs that led to the tomb.

The casket was black and dew layered the lid like icing, the aura manifesting itself to let others stay way and turn back from the opening of wretched secrets. Rei let out a shuddered breath before placing her hands on the closure and pushing it forward. Hotaru found herself aiding the soldier's movements within finding the strength to push the lid far from the tomb itself.

Finally, the two girls felt that they've torn the lid from the tomb far enough, so when they garnered enough oxygen in their lungs to relax their muscles, they took the time to peer inside the unfathomable sepulcher only to find themselves gazing into darkness.

"I don't see anything." Hotaru spoke softly, only to lengthen the silence even more. Rei turned her head and narrowed her eyes in disbelief.

"Me neither." Rage and suspicion clouded and clawed at her insides; they went inside the last resting place to find something valuable, but to only uncover darkness within a lost tomb, that was madness!!

Her eyelids suddenly felt sore and her eyeballs were dry and tearing from the poorly lit atmosphere of the mausoleum, purple eyes shimmering. She futilely overcame the urge to venture into the abyss of sleep, but her muscles and body gave out, falling into the tomb below her. Hotaru too fell into the vast chasm of death alongside Rei, encasing them both within the pretty shell.

A god descended from the shadowy heavens, accepting them both souls for as they were exactly the same but different in ways they couldn't comprehend. Dawn approached the reclusive burial chamber while the nightingale sung before the lark took its flight across the sky.

Rei Hino, soldier of Mars

Hotaru Tomoe, soldier of Saturn

God bless you. Both of you.
