Rangiku dreamt that she was falling down from the sky. Below her, Gin lay on a broken slab of concrete. No, this couldn't be happening. No, no, no. Gin…Her Gin…
"Gin!" she screamed in despair as she reached out to him from the air. Hot teardrops from her blurry eyes fell on his pale cheeks.
Rangiku wept loudly as she encased Gin's broken form beneath her trembling body. Gin…Gin…
"Mm," groaned Rangiku in her sleep. The very person she was dreaming of right now looked at her with concern. Was his Ran-chan having a nightmare right now?
Gin shifted closer to Rangiku and gently shook her shoulders.
"Ran-chan," he whispered close to her ear "Ran-chan. Wake up"
Rangiku breathed out a sign and slowly opened her eyes. Her vision was blurry with tears, but she could still make out the silver-white hair in front of her face. Ah, she thought, so it was all a dream. Gin is right here with me now.
Rangiku stared at the ceiling in an effort to swallow back her tears. The dream had seemed so real that the image of Gin's dying body still burned clearly in her mind. What a horrible dream to have.
"Are ya alright, Ran-chan?" asked Gin "Ya seemed to be having a nightmare, so…"
"Yeah, I'm fine" answered Rangiku "Just a stupid nightmare. Thanks, Gin"
"What did ya dream of?" asked Gin "There's a saying it's better to tell yer nightmare to somebody else. That way, it'll never happen"
"Like birthday wishes" smiled Rangiku "They never come true if you tell them to somebody else"
"Exactly" Gin smiled in return "So tell me what you dreamt"
Rangiku pondered for a moment and finally said to him,
"I dreamt that you left me" she said, not meeting his gaze by looking at the other way "And that I was left all alone in this world"
There was a brief silence between them before Gin chuckled.
"Well, that's a relief" said Gin.
"How so?" asked Rangiku, a little upset that Gin found her nightmare amusing. She was being serious here!
"Because something like that'll never happen," said Gin, holding Rangiku's hand in his slightly bigger hand "I'll never, ever leave ya alone, Ran-chan"
Rangiku turned her head his way to look into his eyes "Promise?"
"Promise" said Gin, placing a light kiss on the back of her hand.
