Chapter One

As Harry walked through the halls of Gryffindor for the first time, he thought of his mother, Lilly. He missed her a lot. But he was told that this was part of being a wizard. Learning to say goodbye.

Later that evening, he sat on his bed, trying out tricks with his new wand. A red haired boy he had met on the Hogwarts Express was bunked next to him. This was a relief. At least he knew a few kids already.

Harry asked, "Sorry, but what's your name again?"

"Ron... well if you're gonna get specific, it's Ronald Weasley."

"Do you miss your family?" asked Harry.

"A little, but there's so many of us, it's great to get away. And plus, you met my older brothers, Fred and George. They're here too." Ron continued, "Have you any relations at Hogwarts?"

Harry replied, "Well, you could say my family has quite a history here. But it's a little embarrassing to talk about."

"And at home?" Ron asked.

"Oh yeah, there's my mom Lily, I miss her a lot. She's always entertaining us with spells. And sometimes, on the full moon, she casts a circle of stars above my bed, if I've been good." Harry went on, "And my sister Marjorie, she's two. Always getting into trouble. Once, she accidentally zapped our landlady, and turned her into a toad."
Ron laughed, "Ah, that's nothin'. My older brothers are always pulling pranks on muggles. One time, the queen was on national TV., and they turned her hair bright pink. It was hilarious!" Ron went on, "And your father?"

"People keep asking, or pointing fingers at me. But I don't like to talk about it. And I hope no one finds out. I don't want to feel different, or privileged. I just want to be left alone."

The room went silent. A few minutes later, the candles were extinguished, and the boys fell asleep.

The next morning, Harry and Ron walked with their new friend Hermoine to their first class. Harry dragged his feet as a feeling of dread washed over him. He thought he was going to be sick. Hermoine asked, "You know, it's not my place, but what is it about the professor of Potions that's got you looking like you just saw a basilisk?" Harry rolled his eyes, and kept silent.

As they walked into the room, the chatter grew silent, and everyone stared, slack jawed and wide eyed. Harry swallowed, and walked to his seat. Luckily there were two extra seats in that row, so his friends were by his side.

That's when it happened. The professor walked into the classroom, closing all the curtains and illuminating all the candles, so the room was filled with a macabre glow. Then he turned. Harry whispered to himself "Severus Snape", as the teacher announced his name to the class.

"I trust all of you have the necessary supplies. I would hate to fail one of you for being ill prepared on your first day." Professor Snape went on, "And I'm sure you've met the star of the class, my son Harry. Stand up will you, Harold Snape." Harry just about died of embarassment, as he turned and waved to the rest of the students.

"Yup, that's the big secret Ron. Now you all know. The professor of Potions is MY DAD! He's a great guy, but, now everyone's gonna think I'm teachers' pet."
