Christmas Proposal

A/N: I wrote this as part of a gift-fic exchange on the Frivolity & Felines Cookie Jar. The participants each wrote a letter to 'Santa', requesting a fic with certain requirements to be fulfilled. We then picked fics to write and posted them. I chose to write Vicks' request and this is the result. Enjoy!

As Albus Dumbledore walked through the corridors of Hogwarts, he was amused to note that he could see his breath at times. In his hands, he carried a stack of wizard crackers. For once, he was nervous. It was going to take all of his Gryffindor courage to do what he planned tonight. Finally reaching his destination, he shifted the stack of wizard crackers to one arm and knocked. "Just a moment!"

Albus merely stood quietly and waited. When the door opened, a chuckle escaped him. "Have a little trouble with Spellotape?"

She glared at him, Spellotape liberally attached to her robe, face, and hands. "Hush, Albus. Will you come in or not?"

"Oh, I'm coming in," he assured her, moving past her into her sitting room. "If only to make sure you haven't destroyed your rooms."

"Very funny, Albus," she answered dryly, closing the door behind her. "I managed to wrap all my presents, so there's no chance you'll see something you're not supposed to."

"I'm glad for that," he replied, setting the wizard crackers on a table. "Wouldn't want to spoil Christmas, after all.

She frowned as she examined the stack of crackers. "Albus, this is the wrong brand of crackers."

"Is it?" he asked innocently, struggling to contain his mirth.

She glared again. "Yes, Albus. You were supposed to get the Crikey Crackers, not the Weasley Christmas Bangs."

Albus smiled. "I'm sorry, Minerva. I don't recall being told which brand to get."

She planted her hands on her hips and glared some more. "You know very well that I told you _not_ to get anything made by the Weasley twins."

He picked up the top cracker and offered it to her. "Won't you at least try one?"

"No." She pushed the cracker away. "I don't fancy being covered with goop or having pink hair, Albus."

"Please, Minerva?" he entreated. "Just this one time?"

She sighed and reached for the other end of the cracker. "Very well, just this once." When the cracker went off, it went off with a sound like a cannon shot, accompanied by a cloud of purple smoke. When it had cleared, both looked the same as usual and a small jewelry box sat on the floor between them. Minerva looked at the box, and then at her companion. "Albus, what is this?"

He picked it up and held it out to her. "My Christmas gift to you, my dear."

She took it and opened it, gasping at when she saw the ring inside. It was a simple gold band with a diamond centered between two rubies. "Albus?"

"Minerva, I nearly lost you last June before I could tell you how much I love you," he explained, bright blue eyes boring into her deep brown ones. "We have been friends for years, but I would like to be your husband. Will you marry me?"

"Oh, Albus." There were tears in her eyes as she flung her arms around his neck. "I love you, too. Of course I'll marry you."

Taking the ring, he slipped it onto the third finger of her left hand and then drew her to him for the first of many kisses.
