ANBU aren't crazy. They're logical, cold. They don't do it for the adrenaline, or to forget. They do it for the Hokage, for the Fire Nation, for all the text-book reasons fed to five-year-olds at the Academy; the ones whose sheer inadequacy becomes blindingly clear as you're sick from your first kill. They have no ghosts.
And really, that's why Asuma always lights up when one races by, why Gai used to be especially loud around Kakashi, why Ibiki prefers to work with them standing guard outside the door.
Because Jounin may be crazy, but ANBU are always completely sane.
Something that came while trying to work on True Love. I've always thought it odd that most of the ANBU we've seen are surprisingly well-adjusted. Let me know what you think!
