Holding On
You can't hold onto one thing for your entire life. It's just the rules of life. You have to learn to let go at some point. But letting go is always the hardest part.
A single tear fell down Duncan's cheek, but he quickly brushed it away before anyone else could notice. He had an image to uphold, crying wasn't going to keep it for him. Duncan's bad boy image made him tough as nails on the outside, but soft as cream on the inside. So, crying in public was only switching the two sides around a little. But that wasn't allowed.
There was only one reason why Duncan Evans would cry. And that would be if he lost the most preciosu thing to him; Courtney. Courtney Taylor had been his friend since first grade. The two were always bickering, but they always said how much they loved each other behind closed doors.
Now, with nothing left in the world, Duncan was forced to hide his tears from everyone else. Courtney was leaving. Moving away for good. The two were never going to see each other again. Never.
It hurt. It hurt Duncan deep. Courtney had always been his best friend. The two had known each other for as long as they could remember. They had grown up as next-door neighbours, gone to the same schools and done everything together.
Everyone was telling him it was time to move on, get a new girlfriend. But he couldn't. Every girl in school wanted to be his girlfreind, and could never understand why he chose Courtney over all of them.
It wasn't that Courtney wasn't good looking that made people feel that way, because Courtney was one of the most beautiful, and all natural, girls in the school. Courtney and Duncan were complete opposites. She was a goody-two shoes who got straight A's and had potential in life. Duncan was a punk who got straight F's and had the potential to get no where in his life. Opposites attract though.
Courtney was the perfect girl for Duncan, though. She was everything that he wanted in a girl. Growing up, the two had always been arguing, but it wasn't hatred kind of arguing. It was the kind of arguments you would get into with your mother, then having the ability to forgive her when she cooks diner. That was just the way Courtney and Duncan had always been.
When Duncan had hit puberty, his feelings for Courtney had strengthened big time. By that time everyone was always saying how much they flirted all the time, so there was no reason for the two to officially date. He liked her, she liked him. It was that easy.
Well, it had been that easy. Now Duncan was left heartbroken as he sat on the wall. He kept waving his hand until the car was long gone into the distnace. There was no turning back for Courtney now. She was gone. Gone for good. Duncan's herat was not going to stop hurting.
The others hwo had gathered to say goodbye to the family started to walk away. There was no point in staying around with nothing to do. But Duncan didn't budge. He wasn't going to give up on Courtney that easily...But there was nothing he could do to get her back now. She was gone forever. The two were never going to see each other again, Duncan just had to face it.

But who says you have to let go...
A/N: I take it back...Upsetting oneshots do come naturally to me, even when I'm not upset!
Do I just have a mind for depressing things ro what...?...Don't answer that one...
LOL!
Oneshot or not?
I know a few people always ask me to continue my oneshots into stories, but I never do. But, as I was writing this, I got the idea for a story...Sort of. I just have no idea how to incorporate anything...So, story or oneshot...Your choice :)
