AN: Happy early (and hoping that we get one) Halloween!
The prompts that I was given were Halloween, pumpkin pie, and ghosts. I hope that you enjoy this sweet vignette about a simple crush. Sorry that it's so rushed, I was having major writer's block.
Disclaimer: Last time I checked I am an American, sarcastic, and fun-sized. Nice try, but I know that I'm not JK Rowling.
Title: Pumpkin Pie Crush
Word Count: 605
Summary: "What are you suppose to be?" For The Guilty Pleasure Challenge: nessieblackfan
Lily's orange face looked up at Teddy, confused. "Are you suppose to be an old bloke?"
Teddy sighed and ran his hand though his white hair—a habit that he picked up from Harry. He was in charge of taking Lily trick-or-treating this year due to a rock-paper-scissors game that he lost to. He swore that Harry cheated, but Ginny only shook her head and told him that it won't be so bad.
Of course he would originally had Al and James to help, but those two were at Hogwarts and causing the McGonnigal's hair to permanently age white. When Lily found out that he was watching her on Halloween night, the girl wouldn't stop her excitement from showing.
During dinner she was in such a rush that she put her elbow in the butter dish and kept dropping everything. Even her nonsensical chatter increased in word count. Teddy couldn't figure out why his godparents kept smiling and laughing when they saw Lily reacting like that. Maybe it was a parent thing?
"I'm suppose to be a ghost," he said and spread his arms out. He used his powers to make himself pale and chalky. He would love to make himself vaguely transparent like the ones at Hogwarts, but Harry reminded him of the Status of Secrecy.
Teddy studied Lily's costume, wondering what she was. It looked like she was wearing a glob of orange with some frilly brown lace on the top. Perhaps Aunt Luna had a hand with the costume? "Are you a nargle?" he guessed.
"No!" Lily jumped up and down, sending the treats in her overflowing bag everywhere. She flapped her arms for emphasis, and gave him the sweetest smile that could spin fairy-floss. "I'm a pumpkin pie!"
"…I don't see it."
"That's because you're old!" Lily turned around and went to march off to the another house for free sweets.
Teddy quickly caught up with her. "Lily-Flower," he smiled as she growled at the pet name. "I'm terribly sorry, but you don't look like a pie."
"Get some glasses, Grandpa."
"Now you're just being mean."
Lily stopped and turned on her heels. Her brown eyes were very bright and her red hair whipped around her painted face. "Then stop treating me like a little kid!"
Teddy held his hands up in defence. He had no idea where that outburst came from, and he was slightly terrified at the complete change in mood. "It isn't my fault that you're acting like one."
"Boys." Lily grumbled something under her breath about stupid crushes, and then she stomped up to the next house. Before the occupant opened the door, she turned her head to make a face at Teddy. He smiled and waved back at her just to see her orange face turn red.
Girls, he decided, made no sense. But as long as he got his share of chocolate once the night was over he could deal with it.
