Author's Note: Just a drabble I did at 11 PM... The mildest of L x Light... if you stare at it long enough. I felt philosophical... Don't own Death Note... but everyone knows that...

R & R, please!

Light Yagami and L Lawliet. The two perfect rivals. Their minds of equal strength, the other's next move a cunning challenge for their own mental abilities. To Light, L was the antagonist of the little fairy tale that was being called the Kira Case; and he was the hero, the one everyone looked up to and aspired to be. Of course, as it is in all stories; to the so-called antagonist, they thought of themselves as the protagonist. It could be called a mirror image.

They each had their own ideas, their own senses of the word 'justice'. To the simple-minded, it was only a word in the dictionary; it's written meaning absolute and verified. But in reality, justice has its own definition in everyone's minds; no two being the exact same. To some, justice may be winning at a game; be it literal or figurative. And to others, it was a sense of well-being in the world. This was the idea that Light had.

But they say opposites attract. Whether it was planned by God, or some sort of sick coincidence; the rivals ended up being on the same investigative team. In their own minds; they held some sort of respect for the other's ideals and opinions. But they also had the cloud of arrogance that told them that only they were right; and all others were wrong.

In the end; neither of them won. Not literally, anyways. In the figurative sense, L's side of justice won; and Kira was vanquished. Even though many disagreed with this idea of justice, life continued; L's beliefs being thrust upon a seemingly unchanged, and occasionally unwilling, world.

In every story; there must be an antagonist. No story can exist without one. Life could not exist without them; be they something ethereal or living. Everyone must overcome some obstacle to achieve their goal. But life could not exist without the idea of good, either.

For there to be evil, there must be something good to which they do not agree with, or are not compatible with; or any sort of positive interaction is impossible. Good cannot exist without evil, either. Goodness is what fights the evil; drives it back. Be that evil a person or idea; goodness wishes for it be replaced with a sense of accomplishment and happiness. One simply cannot exist without the other. If evil were to disappear; good would have no meaning. It would simply be another word; or a concept followed simply without realizing what it truly meant. The exact same goes for evil.

Light Yagami's initial idea had a defect. If the world were to be perfect; there would be no sense in it. Perfection replaces imperfection. If there are no flaws, perfection is useless. L had the idea that if he fought complete perfection; everything would be in balance. He was correct. Many have heard the saying that no one or nothing is perfect. It is simply impossible.

Light and L both had ideas that they thought were justice, perfection and imperfection; all leading to eternal happiness. To some, one is dark and the other is light. Yin and Yang. Light and L. If one were to disappear completely, so would the other. Perfection and imperfection go hand in hand; complete and utter harmony. Where there is light, there is shadow. And where there is L, there must be Light. Nothing more.
