A/N: hello! thank you for reading my story! please don't forget to leave a constructive review!
this is a concept unknown to a select few on this site, especially those who hide behind guest so I can't block and report them :) I don't cater to anyone's whims but my own where subject matter is concerned, so leaving a nasty review accomplishes nothing.
A quiet weekend is always the perfect remedy for a long week at work. For the Five-0 task force, their week hadn't just taken the cake, it had taken the whole damn bakery. Their cases had been especially complex, requiring extreme amounts of effort from every team member.
On Monday, they found what was believed to be a serial killer's dumping ground in the forest, with five bodies cloistered together in the damp earth. Their ages ranged from the young to the old, with varying nationalities, income levels, and occupations. In short, there was absolutely no discernible pattern in victims, which made the serial killer unpredictable, in turn adding to his level of dangerous.
Tuesday, they received word about a possible biohazard outbreak headed for the island, forcing them to temporarily table the serial killer. However, no one could provide any reliable intel as to where, when, or why the outbreak would happen. They weren't even sure it was a credible threat, but the Governor was insisting they take it seriously. In the meantime, another couple bodies turned up, presumably of the same serial killer, due to the fact that the victims had nothing in common.
Wednesday was an easier day, because they discovered the serial killer and the mastermind behind the outbreak were working together, with the sole goal of distracting the Five-0 team, so that they would not notice the foreign nationals flooding the island. Apparently there were issues in LA, concerning a mysterious little black book and the Cold War. The foreign nationals were simply using the island as a layover, and taking the opportunity to wreak havoc.
By Friday, they've resolved all cases, leaving everyone exhausted. Dark circles can be seen on every single face, an effect of the early mornings and late nights. Steve declares a half-day, earning half-hearted cheers, although that's only because they are too emotionally drained to put in more effort than that.
Danny finds himself kid-less, and Lynn unexpectedly cancels on Steve, so they decide to spend the day together. Even though it's been a long week, they still draw comfort from the other's presence, because it helps to have someone who's been through the same battles, who's conquered the same mountains. Someone who nothing has to be explained to, because they understand each other inherently.
Steve goes swimming in the ocean, while Danny stretches out in the sun, working on a tan that'll never come. Later, Steve shifts to the garage, tinkering with the old Marquis, while Danny finds a soft bed to nap in. No words are exchanged, each sort of lost in their own little world.
Dinner is a mostly silent affair, with Steve grilling steaks, while Danny roasts potatoes. They sit in a couple of slungback chairs on the lanai, beers on the table between them. A beautiful sunset has overtaken the jewel-toned blue of the sky earlier, filling the wide open space with oranges and pinks and yellows. Both men rest, finding comfort in the simple pleasures of good food, a beautiful view, and the company of their best friend.
It's a pretty spectacular ending to a pretty incredible week.
A/N: also, for some reason, FF is not letting me mark stories complete, at least on mobile. all of my stories where h50 is concerned are complete.
