My Dearest Sarah,
You'd be amazed at how our son is growing. He phases as if he's done it all his life. It amazes me every time I have to buy him a new pair of shoes because he's shredded them yet again. I've bought him a larger bed, and last week we finished converting the garage into a bedroom so he can have more space. I don't know what I'm going to do with the boy if he doesn't quit getting bigger.
He's sort of got a girlfriend now. The vampires moved into town after you were gone, so you wouldn't know anything about them. They're alright, not like the vicious ones our boys have taken out when they were after Bella. Charlie's girl grew up to be quite the little lady, but then she went and got herself pregnant, had a little girl, and turned into a vampire. Then our son went and imprinted on that little girl.
Her name's Renesmee. She was born when Bella was still human, so she's only half vampire. Bella just about ripped Jake's heart out when she realized he'd imprinted on her kid! The girl grew pretty quick for a while. Technically I guess she's only five, but she might as well be about sixteen. I guess she's quit growing for now. Jake's starting to see it, too.
Everybody knows about us now. Vampires, werewolves, there's no secrets in Forks. It took Charlie a while to come around. I imagine it would be hard on any father to realize his daughter sucks the blood out of wild animals. The treaty, thanks to Jake and his little imprint, has been cancelled out. It's not necessary any longer. If a rogue vampire comes around, the boys check with the Cullens and then get rid of it.
The vampires don't really bother me anymore. I mean, it's great that Dr. Cullen comes down to La Push every so often and helps out. And I can't hold a grudge against Bella for anything. But I really have to wonder about Jacob and Nessie. Jake hasn't aged much either since he's been phasing, so they're close to the same age, physically at least.
When he first imprinted on her, it was just like Quil and Claire. You remember…the way I was with you, until you got to be older. But now I think their relationship is changing. He looks at her differently. He gets more agitated when the guys talk to her, there's more tension between him and Edward, and Charlie mentioned seeing him in a jewelry store in Port Angeles. I think he's seeing her as a young woman now and no longer as a little girl.
I can't help thinking about our grandchildren. What will they be like? Will they phase like Jake, or will they be more like vampires? Will they need blood? Even Dr. Cullen never heard of a hybrid before Nessie was born, so nobody knows the answers to any of our questions. I miss you, Sarah. I know if you were here it would be easier. I love Nessie, I really do, but I still have my doubts. You wouldn't. I know you would welcome her with open arms and no questions.
Oh, how I wish you were still here.
I'll always love you.
~Bill
