Turnabout Papa

It was very difficult for Trucy to think of a birthday present for her father, Phoenix Wright. First she thought of a special magic show, but that was not something that he could hold in his hands and he had seen many tricks before. It had to be a special present with a meaning. She even saved some money to get him something. Last year Phoenix said that she would get pocket money to spend it on the things that she liked. From that moment on she got a few dollars per month. But what should she get him? That was the question that had to be answered.

'Okay children. Silence please. Today I am going to learn you how you have to knit,' the teacher said and put the wool on her desk. Trucy had never heard of knitting. Would it be difficult? She thought and looked at the knitting needles the teacher put down on her little desk. 'Has everyone a pair of knitting needles? Alright, then we start.' After a whole explanation of half an hour the kids could try it themselves. Most children gave up after a while, but Trucy didn't. She was busy with blue wool. It went slowly, but she had already a little piece of knitten wool. 'Well done, Trucy. You are doing very well. Are you making a hat? It looks a bit like it, don't you think?' the teacher said and walked towards a boy who had just given up. Trucy looked at her work. A hat? she thought. Wouldn't that be a nice present? It was something he could hold in his hands and wear and it was made by herself. But only the color blue would be a bit boring, right? Hm.. what should she do?

'Rick, how's your papa doing? You told me that he is ill,' a boy asked another kid sitting next to him. 'He's doing fine now, thanks!' Rick laughed. That's it! She had to put "papa" on the hat! With even more enthusiasm she continued with her work and looked for another color for the letters.

On her tiptoes, Trucy went to Phoenix his bedroom. Quietly, she opened the door. She saw he was still asleep, laying on his belly and with one leg out of bed. Trucy walked towards his bed. 'Happy birthday, daddy! Wake up! I have a present for you!' Still very sleepy, Phoenix turned around. There, his daughter stood near his bed with a bubbly face. 'Happy birthday, daddy!' she said again and hugged him. Phoenix sat up straight and yawned. 'I have got a present for you!' Trucy put the present wrapped in the thin red present paper in Phoenix his hands.

'Well, well, I am really curious now!' He examined the soft present.

'Unwrap it, daddy!' Trucy almost shouted with eagerness. He smiled.

'I definitely will!' Phoenix said and stared to wrap the paper off. 'Wow, Trucy. I'm speechless. Did you make this yourself?!' he looked surprised and glad. Trucy nodded.

'Self-made!' she said with pride.

'It's wonderful Trucy. Thank you!' He smiled again and stroked her hair. 'What's this?' Phoenix looked at the button that was attached to the blue-knitted hat.

'Detective Ema Skye gave it to me to put on the hat.' Phoenix had recognized the button and now he knew where he had seen it before. It was a wonderful present and it meant a lot to him that she had put "papa" on the hat. He would wear it with pride.

'Well, I will put it on now. That's what a hat is for, right Trucy?' Phoenix said and put it on his head. Trucy smiled.

'I will now make a delicious breakfast for you, daddy!'

'I feel spoiled,' he said and laughed.

'Of course! It's your birthday! Just relax and I take care of everything!' She opened the bedroom door.

'Thanks, Truce. I really appreciate it all, my dear.' Trucy gave him a smile and a wink and then left the room.
