Buried Deep
Leafkit wandered away from camp. After she left camp the camp she saw her first snow pile. She had no idea what it was, so she sniffed it to try and figure it out. As she was sniffing the pile of snow her nose got stuck in the snow. As she tried to pull her nose out some of the snow falls on her back and knocks her over. As she stands back up she gets a chill down her spine and jumps. That made some more snow fall on her back. As she fell for the second time the snow had fallen and piled onto her back. Now Leafkit cannot get back up and starts getting colder and colder.
Back at camp, Sunstream is feeding her kits. While feeding her kits she notices that one of the kits are missing. Once Sunstream realizes it is Leafkit she tells Willowstar, who then sent out three search parties, each with three cats in them. The search parties searched every snow pile they could find, but no Leafkit.
All of Sunstream's kits are worried about Leafkit.
"When is Leafkit going to get back?" asks Lionkit.
"She is never coming back," Leopardkit replies.
"Kits, Kits. I promise you they will find Leafkit." assures Sunstream.
"Yeah, but she won't be alive." says Leopardkit.
"Mommy, will Leafkit be alive when we find her?" asks Lionkit.
"Of course Leafkit will be alive when we find her. Your sister just pays attention to the bad instead of paying attention to the good." says Sunstream.
As the search parties were searching they thought they found the snow pile with Leafkit in it because they thought there was a tail sticking out of the snow pile. Sadly it wasn't a tail, it was a stick. So they kept searching and searching to find the where Leafkit wandered off to.
A little while later Sunstream goes up to Willowstar and asks, "How long should it take for the search parties to find Leafkit?"
Willowstar answers, "I don't know."
The next day the search parties were still searching for Leafkit, but no matter how hard they looked, they could not find her. Leafkit is a grey tabby cat with green eyes.
When they left searching again they saw a snow pile and ripped it apart. There was no cat in that pile, but while searching another pile they found a kit. They realized that the kit was Leafkit. They rejoiced happily, but only before they found out what happened. As they dug her out a little more they realized Leafkit was not alive. They were too late.
As the news spread of the search party finding Leafkit everyone rejoiced, until they heard the news of Leafkit dying. When they brought Leafkit back to camp everyone said their good byes and then they buried her. The Clan mourned for a while over the young kit's death, and used the story to teach other kits of the dangers of going out of camp alone.
