A Kili and Tauriel Christmas ficlet that was supposed to be uploaded yesterday, but the site was down... so it's a day late. But oh well! :) Let's just pretend Middle Earth has Christmas trees for this fic. And electricity. Enjoy the fluff!

"Tauriel? We have… a problem."

The elf captain looked up from the vegetables she was cutting for the night's dinner, shivering a little in the cold of the cottage they shared just outside Mirkwood. She saw Kili, standing on a wooden chair, looking positively stupid – well, kind of cute too – as he held the glittering yellow star above his head, trying to place the object on the top of the nine-foot-tall tree. And, needless to say, it wasn't working in Kili's favor.

"I can see that, love," Tauriel replied with a giggle, setting down the knife with a small clatter. "Need some help with that?"

The youngest dwarf lowered his arms and turned toward the redhead with a defeated smile. "Please?"

"Come here, you cutie." Tauriel walked across the room and, kicking the chair out from under Kili's feet, scooped him into his arms, the both of them laughing happily. She swung him up and around and sat him on her shoulders, keeping a tight grip on his calves. "Can you reach it now?"

"Oh, you bet. This is perfect." Tauriel looked up and saw the star land perfectly on the treetop, lighting up along with the rest of the tree as it did so. With a smile, she let Kili down slowly and gazed down at him, a full foot shorter than she was. Yes, he was mighty tall for a dwarf.

"Is my work up to par, captain?" He joked, looking up at her with a goofy smile.

"Hmmm, not quite…" Tauriel mocked, pretending to study the tree, "You missed something." As quickly as she could, she bent down and pecked him on the lips. She could practically feel the heat coming off of Kili's face as she squatted to face him.

"You… Tauriel…!" His face as red as a tomato, Kili scrunched his nose at the elf before giving her a quick kiss back. "Now we're even."

A laugh exploded from Tauriel's lips as she ruffled her lover's scruffy hair. "I love you, you know that?"

A happy grin came from the other. "Oh, I know… Merry Christmas, Tauri."

"Merry Christmas."
