A/N: This is dedicated to nikinou who helped me with this
Sally Draper already had a promising life for a 27-year-old. After Betty's death, she had been helping Henry look after Bobby and Gene before going off to college. She graduated with a psychology degree, following in her mother's footsteps. She became a therapist from her experience with a child psychologist as a child.
She sat with her last client, Ruby, who was having trouble with her strained marriage with her fiancé. "How can you tell he does not want to be with you anymore?" Sally asked Ruby.
"Whenever we have dinner, he eats in the basement, he doesn't go to church with me and my kid, and he's at the bar all night" Ruby explained, "It's like he doesn't want to deal with me anymore".
"And he hasn't told you?"
"No" Ruby shakes her head,
"I think it's best that you divorce him now or he's going to be doing this kind of thing for the rest of your life" Sally told her,"Does hat help at all?"
"Yes, thank you" Ruby said, nodding her head.
"Good" replied Sally, "So our time is up. I hope you to see you next week to see how everything goes".
After Sally left work, she drove to pick up her 4-year-old daughter Wendy from school. When she walked into the classroom, she saw Wendy light up at the sight of her mother. "Mommy!" Wendy rushed towards Sally with her My Little Pony lunch box in her hand. She hugged Sally's leg. "Hey, sweetie" Sally said as she picked her up, "Ready to go?". "Yep!" Wendy said.
"We have to pick up Ruth from daycare first" said Sally.
Sally picked up her 5-month-old daughter Ruth and drove home. It had been just Sally and her two girls since she divorced her husband. After Ruth was born, he started to lose interest in her and she immediately filed for divorce and ended the marriage. Sally mostly got help raising the girls from Bobby and Gene.
After they had dinner, Sally spent a quiet evening with Wendy and Ruth. Once Sally put Ruth to sleep, She sat in Wendy's bedroom and snuggled with her in her bed, reading Charlotte's Web.
"Please, please, please tell me where you are? and what are salutations?" , she read, "Salutations are greetings" , said the voice, "When I say 'salutations', it's a fancy way for saying hello or good morning".
She paused once she looked down at her now-sleeping daughter she put the book back on top of the shelf and tucked Wendy into bed . She stoked her wavy sandy blonde hair and kissed the top of her head. She sniffed the smell of strawberry shampoo from her daughter's hair. God, I love you so much, she thought. It was exactly how she liked spending her Friday nights-a quiet evening with her two girls. After she had Wendy and Ruth, she promised herself not to have the complicated relationship she had with her parents.
The next morning, Sally was doing the dishes in the kitchen while Wendy and Ruth sat in the living room watching cartoons. The door bell rang. "I got it!" Sally called as she walked towards the door. When she opened it, she was a bit surprised. It was someone she hadn't seen in a long time.
"Dad?" she looked at him, both surprised and confused.
