We were both young when I first saw you
My eyes are closed,
And the flashback starts,
I'm standing there
My father's party in the Venice air.
See the food,
See the dancing, the ball gowns
I see you make your way across the room,
And say, "Hello."
Little did I know
That you were Romeo, you were a Montague
'Cause I didn't know that Daddy's enemy was you
I asked my nurse at the party,
She told me who you were
And I went
Out on the balcony of my room
Said, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."
It's a tragedy, Romeo and Juliet.
So we sneak out to see Friar Laurence
He married us, and now it all makes sense
But wait, what's this?
You killed Tybalt, and you're leaving town.
But then my dad said I had to marry Paris
And I went to the friar and we made a plan
Because I could take a potion and they'd all think I was dead
Unfortunately,
Romeo never got the news it was a fraud
You went to see me, bringing a glass of poison
You said I was beautiful, even in death,
It's a tragedy, Paris died at your hand.
When I woke from my sleep
I saw that Romeo was dead on the floor.
The friar saw everything
He felt awful, then he walked out the door,
And I said,
Maybe there's poison still on your lips
If I kiss them, I can join you up in heaven
But no, nothing clung to your dead lips,
I knelt by your side, and pulled out your knife and said
Now I can die
Next to Romeo of Montague
The only one for me had always been you
My dad thinks I'm dead, and now I really will be
It's a tragedy, the lovers have to die now.
Friar Laurence came in, and we were both newly dead.
