The Dean of Brakebills ( A School of Magic ) and this mysterious woman have a hour long conversation at a park. There are big doings afoot, magic ones. It seems to involve a boy they have their eye one, Quentin Coldwater. Quentin Coldwater is a very happy person who is set to go to Yale. He also knows magic is real because he has done it before. He does not share this with anyone because he thinks the people he tells might think he is crazy. Even thought he knows he has magic he doesn't know how to use or control it. Quentin is obsessed with a book series called Fillory. Fillory is a book that takes place in a magical land called Fillory. The main characters are two British siblings named the Chatwins: Jane the overjoyed girl and martin the disturbed adventurer. There are 8 of these books and Quentin has frequently read them all. Quentin´s best-friend who is a gorgeous lady with the name julia. Julia is also going to grad school and also has worries toward Quentin and Julia swing by a fancy house for a grad school interview, the place has a clock that looks just like the one from Fillory! AND! A dead guy! The guy was supposed to interview Quentin. But...he was dead! The paramedic hands Quentin a envelope With his name on it. Quentin opens the envelope and doesn't believe what he sees. The unprinted 1860 ninth Fillory book. Quentin is a little overwhelmed because that was a very rare find. While reading the special edition of his Fillory book, a wind blows through and takes a page of the book with it through some bramble. Quentin chasing it ends up on the campus of brake bills. Quentin turns around to see a big white wall with no brambles. Julia ends up there at the magical University as well. Except she gets there in an elevator. Quentin meets Elliot who is also a magician but also a bit of a drunk. He explains to Quentin that he must take a exam to be accepted to brake bills. Julia doesn't make the cut and is sent home by one of the teachers. He gives her a magical alibi for her missing time, wipes her memory, and she cuts her arm so that she'll remember the incident. And make no mistake, she is really bummed that she doesn't make it. Quentin, on the other hand, HAS passed the test and is brought before a board of teachers. one of teachers makes Quentin mad and in a fit of anger Quentin creates a house of cards. The board of teachers impressed, accept Quentin into brake bills.
