Armageddon
By Vortex
About five minutes ago, I saw my last ever glimpse of the sky.
Now, standing with the others like me, I wonder what's gonna happen to us.
To the human race.
If this will end the war, or just take it to a higher level.
I never really though they would carry out there plan. I didn't think that the situation would be so hopeless, so unbelievably dire, that they had to destroy nature's glory to live.
I always envisioned the third world war to be fought with guns or nuclear warheads. Against another powerful dictator like Hitler.
Not against machines.
I remember watching the day they finally gave birth to AI on TV. Everyone was smiling and laughing, sharing out champagne and cake. Marveling at there own brilliance, and to tell the truth, I marveled too. I mean, I figure any progress is good progress right?
Right.
The human race is so arrogant. It believes that nothing could get so advanced as it, that humans are the one and only form of sentient life. So I guess we were doomed from the start.
Doomed from the minute we crawled out the primordial soup.
There are colonies deep underground. But there will never be enough for everyone, so all that's left to do now is die.
The plants will go first, from lack of sunlight. Then they will be joined be the animals, and finally humans will surrender to the black.
Why black? Why is black always the color of death?
Why is the swirling, moving death cloud above me black?
At first people were looting and stealing. Doing the things on their 'things to do before I die' list. But, when they were all over, all that is left now is too wait.
Always waiting.
At least my greatest fear won't come true. At least I won't die alone.
I never thought I would live too see the end of the world.
Armageddon.
I think most people gave up religion a long time ago. Around the time when they mapped out a human and cloned him, showing how easy it was to play god.
But there were a few, who still had hope.
But there are no horsemen. No judgement.
Just black.
Endless, swirling, moving, growing clouds of black highlighted with silver lightening.
And in a way it's kind of beautiful.
