It was 4pm when the blackout happened. The City was consumed by darkness. That's when everything went wrong. The bombs started to drop. Only three of us got away; my sister, Amy, our room mate and myself. The city streets, once peaceful and calm, were consumed by riots and gang wars. The fight for survival had begun. A contagious infection had escaped from the test lab at the north of the city. Which was broken into earlier this afternoon. We headed south to where the coastal hills towered above the city. Glancing back, we saw the devastation the bombs had left behind. building's left in ruin, fires blazing reaching the sky sending thick black smoke swirling towards the clouds. Distant explosions and gun fire could still be heard from the city. Glancing down I saw the glazed surface of the hills rock face. We gradually clambered down the rock face, where under the mound of rock laid our hidden safety. We landed on the soft and moist sand. I dug out the top of the tunnel which led to the bunker we had found exploring the cliffs. Amy and Josh, our room mate, had slowly slid down the tunnel into the bunker. I clambered in and slowly filled the end of the tunnel with the excavated sand. We got into the main room of the bunker and dumped our things on the table. We went through each room and checked the food supply. Tired, we all went to unpack our spare clothes and went to lie in bed. We had barely slept at at all. That night was the longest of my life.
