The Reaping
Lilly Moscoitivz was running through the forest behind the fences of District 12. She heard a rustling behind her. She turned around slowly to see the black eyes of a deer. She got her bow out, aimed at the deer, and knocked an arrow. It hit the dear right in the eye. The deer collapsed right in front of Lilly.
"Good one," a voice behind Lilly said. She spun around to see Katniss Everdeen and Gale Hawthorne walking towards her.
"This is what I do to get my mind off today," Lilly replied.
"It's your second year, isn't it," Katniss said.
"Yeah." Lilly said. "Isn't it Prim's first reaping?"
"Don't remind me." They all got their animals and headed to the Hob. When they got there, everyone was talking about the reaping. They all headed off in different directions to sell everything they killed. Lilly walked up to Greasy Sae. She got some bread and soup in exchange for everything she had. After a while, the trio had to leave to go to the reaping.
Every year, there was something called the Hunger Games. You send two children, a boy and girl, between the ages twelve and eighteen from the twelve districts to fight to the death as entertainment.
Everyone between twelve and eighteen lined up for the reaping of the 74th Hunger Games. Lilly signed in and got in the group of thirteen year-old girls. Once everyone was signed in, the video the capitol made them watch came on. It's about how the Capitol was keeping order by punishing the districts for trying to overthrow them seventy-four years ago. The video just made Lilly mad that the capitol was doing this to them.
Once the video was over, a woman with crazy makeup and blue hair got up on the podium. Her name was Effie and she drew the names of the tributes.
"Welcome to the start of the seventy-fourth Hunger Games!" Effie said excitedly. "We will begin by drawing the name of the girl tribute." Effie then reached into a bowl of names. She picked a name and said "Katniss Everdeen!"
"No," Lilly thought. Even though Katniss is the toughest girl Lilly has ever met, she still is her best friend.
"I volunteer as tribute!" Lilly yelled. Everyone turned around to look at her. The Peacekeepers then came for me as Lilly walked up to the podium.
"No!" Katniss yelled. She tried to pull Lilly back, but the Peacekeepers stopped her. Lilly reached the podium.
"What's you name?" Effie asked.
"Lilly Moscoitivz," Lilly replied.
"You're very brave. You were the first person ever to volunteer in District 12," Effie replied.
"We have our girl tribute!" Effie then yelled. She then reached in another bowl. She picked a name and said "Peeta Mellark!"
"Why did it have to be him," Lilly thought. She knew Peeta. He had once given Katniss a loaf of bread when she was starving. He was always nice to everyone. He did not deserve to die.
