This is a one-shot about Firesong and Silverfox at the end of Storm
Breaking. It was written by both Stefen and Goldensong. Please review!
One loss, Immeasurable Gain
Pain. Immeasurable, unforgiving, relentless, never-ending. Pain.
Firesong slowly opened his eyes, groaning in agony. Yet, even though the pain was excruciating, he could distance himself from it because of its increasing normality. Over the last few days, Firesong had slipped in and out of consciousness but either way he was constantly haunted by pain.
When Need exploded, Firesong's face was mutilated by flying shards of white- hot iron. Only his eyes had been saved; a curse as much as a blessing. He did not want to see the ruin of his former self. Firesong was always aware of how that day left him; a wreck, both physically and emotionally.
He would never again grace society with his beauty nor render packed halls speechless with a single, uncaring glance. He would never leave maidens swooning with a smile nor lure young men to his bed with his charm.
His looks gone, not who he once was, he would never be complete nor fulfilled. He must now hide behind the artwork of masks and bear his shame in silence. He would never again be recognised as a being of beauty, his outer ugliness would conceal his inner fire.
Firesong's mental tirade was interrupted as Silverfox glided into the room. As he watched the kestra'chern approach, his thoughts strayed to his new- found love.
The mage remembered his resounding delight when Silverfox declared his never-ending devotion to him. In more ways than one, this love more than compensated for the destruction of his face. He had never before felt such over-whelming emotions towards another soul.
At this point, Silverfox reached his side and touched his hand reassuringly. He then smiled lovingly and gently began removing his bandages. The kestra'chern moved with such uncaring grace and precision that Firesong was mesmerised and any former train of thought was lost.
He was brought back to reality when Silverfox finished applying the new bandages. Firesong gazed up at his new lover in appreciation and whispered,
"Thank you."
A small smile graced Silverfox's features.
"You know I would do anything for you. Think nothing of it, ashke. I love you."
Firesong felt a warmth grow in the deep void that was his heart. There was hope for light yet.
Though it caused him immeasurable agony, he smiled.
"I love you too."
