Dean's POV

"Dean! Come down here for a minute!" I hear my dad call me.

I slowly walk down the stairs. "Yes sir?" I question.

"Your mom and I would like to talk to you about something."

"About what?" I ask, we never have any talks because there is never anything to talk about. Me, my mom, and my dad have a great life. We never have any problems. My mom likes to stay at home and work while my dad is a mechanic. While, I am just a normal 16 year old kid. I mean the one that doesn't really try. I mean, I don't care about school. I just plan on graduating and working with my dad in his shop.

"Well, Dean, your father and I have been thinking a lot about this lately. When we decided to go through with it." My mom states.

"Go through with what?" My eyes narrow a little.

"Dean, we are so blessed with what we have. Truly. That we decided to start fostering kids. We want to help kids have a better life."

"And you didn't think to talk to me about this first? This doesn't just affect you! It affects me too! Why didn't I have a say!?" I yell at my mom and dad.

"Dean! You don't speak to us that way!" My father yells back at me.

I would usually apologize, but I was too angry. "When does this start?"

"He comes next week."

"Next week?!" I yell incredulously. "Are you serious?"

"Yes. His name is Sam, and he is 12." My dad said.

"I can't believe you didn't talk to me about this." I said, rolling my eyes.

"Dean, we did think about you. We thought that this would be good for you." My mom informed.

"Good for me? How is this good for me? You could have just ruined my life! We don't even know this kid! We are inviting in a stranger! I have friends. How said I needed anymore? I don't need anyone else in my life! My life is fulfilled."

"Dean, this isn't just about you either. Sam might need people in his life. You could be there for him. You guys could become brothers-"

"I don't want a brother! I never wanted a brother! I just wanted it to be us!"

"Look, Dean. This is happening. Don't be rude to Sam when he gets here, got it?" My dad said.

"Whatever." I say, while rolling my eyes and running upstairs.

John's POV

"That went well." Mary said with a sigh.

"He'll come around. I'm sure him and Sam will be good friends."

"How do you know?"

"Dean's a good kid, Mary. I just know."

A Week Later…

I was driving my baby, a 1967 Chevy Impala, thankful it was a Friday. I need a break from that school. Then, I noticed another car in our driveway. Great, Sam's here. There goes my happy Friday

I'm just about to go inside, when the door opens and my mom and a lady are there.

"Dean!" My mom smiles.

"I'll see you later, Mrs. Winchester. Have a nice day!"

"You too!" My mom calls back, then she turns to me. "Dean, Sam is here. Make him feel welcome, got it?" I nod and roll my eyes.

She walks me into the kitchen, where I see my dad and Sam at the table. I take a good look at him. He is pretty short for his age. He has hazel eyes and brown, shaggy hair.

"Dean, this is Sam. Sam, this is our son Dean." Mary introduces.

"Hi." Sam says, in a small and quiet voice, but I ignore him by not saying anything back and just sit down at the table. I hear my mom and dad sigh.

"Dean, dinner will be ready in a few minutes. Why don't you go show Sam his room?"

"Whatever. C'mon." I said.

Sam hesitantly got up and followed me. I noticed that he was very cautious around me. Like he was trying not to make too much noise to make me angry. We walked up the stairs.

Sam was so in awe about how big the upstairs were that he didn't even notice that I stopped. He ended up stepping on the back of my shoe.

"Oh my-"

"I'm sorry!" Sam said, quickly. "I did't mean to!" It sounded like fear in his voice, but I didn't really take note of it.

I fixed my shoe and glared down at Sam. He looked scared of me, which I guess I could understand. I was like twice the kids height.

"I'm really sorry." Sam said, his voice quiet but sincere.

I roll my eyes and open the door in front of me. "This is your room."

Sam looked around me and inside the room.

"Well, are you going to go in?" I snapped at him.

Sam jumped like 20 feet in the air. Then, he rushed inside, staying as far away from me as possible. He looked around the room. The look of awe on his face again.

"This is all mine?" He asked.

"Yeah." I said.

"Thank you." Sam said, looking me straight in the eye. He was really thankful. Thankful more than anyone I ever met about anything. It was like I had just given him the world. It warmed something inside me. It made me feel as though, I had known this kid all my life, like I had been his brother all my life, but I quickly brushed it off. Not thinking anything about it. Ignored it as if it never happened.

"Sure. C'mon. Dinner's ready." I walked away before I even knew if the kid was following me.

"Wait!" I hear Sam's voice call after me.

"What?" I said, tone harsh.

I saw Sam freeze. His head bow down, which made his hair cover his eyes. "I mean it."

"Mean what?" Tone still harsh.

"When I said thank you. I know your parents gave me a room, but… you still let me stay here. I am thanking you too."

My eyebrows scutch up, thinking. I had no clue why this kid was thanking me. I have been nothing but a jerk to him since he met me.

"I've been to a lot of houses with people. Some of the parent's kids were not happy about me staying with them. They were furious. So thanks…." Sam trailed off.

Sam has to know that I'm angry at him staying here, but he is still thanking me?

"Well, I'm pretty furious about it too," I tell him.

His eyes widen. "I know! It's just…" A pause. "You're doing better than they were when they met me." The last part was a whisper, which made me wonder how the other kids acted.

"Okay…whatever. Dinner is still ready." I said and marched down the stairs with Sam following after me.
