S1 E2 – He Sees Her
She is furious, indignant and hackled up with rage.
He has been chewed out by experts. He knows how to keep his game-face in place. It is the only thing saving him now, sheer practice and long years of suffering in silence because... because THIS woman is something else… something new.
All he can see are her eyes. Intelligent. Dedicated. Beautiful. He is looking down into deep waters and something huge and dangerous is looking back. He's never seen it before. Should he be worried?
She stands too close. Despite the hellish tropical furnace, his suffocating suit, the physical agony of being slowly steamed alive, he savours the rush of prickles across his torso as her body heat sinks in.
He knows his subconscious is recording every word she says as he admires the lovely curves of her face, the soft cascade of her hair, and her mouth. It is moving, yada, yada, yada, but he feels soft lips against his, a small tongue-tip inserting itself.
When she jabs him in the chest with a hard finger, the spell is broken and he surfaces to re-engage in the 'conversation'. She is satisfied. Her honour and self-worth have been defended.
He is very unsatisfied. His life course may have forked onto a path he cannot foresee… if he chooses to follow that path.
Does he choose? Is he man enough to take on this hell-cat? Has he the wit, the strength, the sheer audacity to even attempt it? If he fails, can he live with that? If he wins… ah…
Are the gods kind enough to finally answer his prayers?
Are they perverse enough to send him to hell to find heaven?
Time and patience, and perhaps a bullet-proof vest, will tell.
