This is just a little something I was thinking about after watching the episode "Lady Shiva." It's Helena/Huntress's reflection on what happened, so there are some spoilers for that episode...
A/N: This is my first finished Birds of Prey fanfic, but I'm working on a longer one, if there's anyone out there who would want to be a beta for that story I would love you forever! Just drop me a line... Thanx!
Disclaimer: I don't own Birds of Prey, if I did the show definitely wouldn't be getting cancelled. Don't sue, I'm a beyond broke college freshman already at risk for losing her scholarship... I'm really not worth much, I swear!
Anyway, here's the story, I hope you enjoy it, and PLEASE! review!!!

That fight… It hurt more than any other brawl that I've been a part of. I'm not talking about jumping up and down the stairs or getting kicked into the school lockers, that was nothing. That was the kind of thing that I'm used to. Lady Shiva was a more average adversary in that respect. It's what happened after the twist that threw me for a loop.
One second I'm kneeling over Lady Shiva and tossing a few good threats her way, and the next? The next second the face I'm ready to hit doesn't belong to yet another criminal. When the mask came off she was no longer Lady Shiva, she was Sandy. The girl that I'd survived high school with. The girl that I'd missed when she'd disappeared. The girl who'd once been my best friend and was quickly reclaiming that title.
I'm used to taking hits from the bad guys. All the decent fights requiring taking it for the team, that's pretty much a given, even for someone like me. The bad guys I don't mind so much. Taking hits from a friend. A confidant. Someone like Sandy… That hurts one hell of a lot more. Every look is a knife through your heart and every blow is a twist of that same knife.
Huntress. She's one hell of a bad ass. She can dish out hell and take it too. She doesn't concern herself with past histories or possible futures. She's the one that people can look up to, I hope. She is the one everyone wants a chance to be. She's just this side of unstoppable. Invincible, if you will.
Helena Kyle. She's a scared little girl kneeling on the sidewalk and holding her mother while watching the blood and the life of the only person that she cares about slip away and mix with the rain water before drifting down the street. She is the object of no one's envy. She's full of pain and sorrow, and hope that someday the world will begin to make sense again.
Huntress and Helena have nothing more in common than the letter "H." To most they may even look identical, but they're not even close. So it makes me wonder, which one am I?

You know that you want to tell me what you thought. Trust me, I know you do, and constructive critisism is my best friend, or at least one of my best friends!
Thanx!
