"You son of a bitch. I believed in…" Castiel didn't even have to finish the sentence. He turned to Dean, "I don't need this anymore." He tossed Dean's amulet back at him. "It's worthless."

"Cas, wait!" Sam stepped forward but he was already gone.

Dean left the hotel after tossing the amulet in the garbage. He knew Sam would fish it out, and sulk on the bed for awhile. He put his duffel in the back of the Impala and collapsed behind the wheel, closing his eyes and waiting for Sam. The front of the car sunk down and Dean, startled, sat up straight, to see Castiel leaning on the hood. He opened the door and got out, sitting beside him.

"I did not know where to go." He muttered, not looking at the hunter. "Dean, I-"his voice broke. Dean moved closer, his arm brushing against that of the angel. "I do not know this emotion."

"Despair. Trust me, Cas, you're talking to the King of it." Dean grimaced and sighed.

"I have let you down, you and Sam both. My own Father betrayed me, I have killed my brothers and sisters." His throat constricted and his eyes clouded over. "It's all hopeless."

"Cas, you didn't let us down." Dean stood and paced around the car, then stopped in front of Castiel. "Hey. I know how you feel. Rejected, desperate, like you're grasping for anything to keep you going, but you just keep falling."

Castiel nodded and stood up, brushing a hand over his face. "I should go."

Dean sidestepped him and pulled him into a strong embrace. "Dean…"

"Just accept it, Cas. You aren't gonna get many of these from me, so just take it." Dean's voice broke as he felt the angel's arms move around him. "We are your family now. Got that?" Dean pulled away and wiped his face. "We're going to be ok." He blinked and Castiel was gone.

"Dean", he heard his brother call. "Ready to go?"

"Yeah." Dean cleared his throat and slumped behind the wheel once more. "Let's go Sammy."
