The grange had had a great many occupants but not the heights. For a time happiness had rung out in the halls a time to long held back, only now the patter of tiny feet ran through the parlour to the kitchen.
"come here," Hareton lifted his tiny infant and she gurgled and giggled as he kissed her cheek. Nelly smiled as she folded washing by the heath. Cathy had been gone a while it had seemed too long Hareton and her had bickered in a lovebird like manner. Tiny Catherine had set it her mission to toddle around the house and find mummy, but she could only find Daddy. The letter had been sad that they received at the grange as Hareton and baby Catherine could not see them. Albeit as the infant giggled in her fathers arms the door was flung open.
"That walk gets further every time," Hareton smiled love glowing in his eyes, Cathy shook snow from her bonnet and rested her feet after the long jaunt to the grange. She took her child into her arms and sung a nursery rhyme to her as Hareton slumped in the opposite chair grinning, a happy family.
Business at the grange had been bleak as the lease papers were handed over. A new tenant would arrive Tuesday only these people were beyond the granges control, tenants joining them with less than three miles distance would surely affect the summer warmth of the moors as they came carriage after carriage of expensive possession, black like the eyes of the heartbroken. Hareton would have to meet them only he had not expected such nature.
