Always and Never
Everything happened for a reason. She hated clichés, but she had to agree with this particular quote.
If life was based on random chances, everything would be so accidental. The world would be so chaotic because of the endless, unexpected happenings. Meanwhile, a life controlled by destiny or fate would be too predictable. Since everything's already predestined, there wouldn't be any excitement that made life worth living.
She believed that the definition of a perfect life was somewhere in between insanity and logic, in the middle of reality and magic. She never thought her life was perfect. After all the heartbreaking losses she suffered, she couldn't even consider her life a happy one.
Letting go hurt so much. It took her years to get over the deaths of her loved ones. The pain was too much for her so she hardened her heart. She would rather be numb than to feel the pain of losing someone again.
Being a police detective made her cynical. She never understood the fairytales her father read to her when she was a child. She always wondered why Cinderella never fought back and why she decided to wait for prince charming rather than to save herself.
She never wanted her own knight in shining armor, but life had other plans for her. She met a certain Takagi Wataru and eventually, everything in Cinderella's story made sense to her.
She was strong and independent, but when he's near, she was vulnerable. His presence soothed her more than anything or anyone in this world, yet she was always nervous under his gaze. He never failed to cheer her up, yet he always made her cry with his beautifully spoken words. Those tears of realization helped her move on from her past.
He never really told her she was special, but she always felt special through his actions. He never had the right words to express his thoughts, yet she always understood what he meant.
She never intended to love again, but he always did something to prove that his feelings for her were real.
She was afraid. She always knew she was cursed. The people she loved died. That was how it was, it never changed.
Well, it never changed until she met him. He always defied death. He survived every imaginable danger and he always returned to her, just like what he promised to do.
He was different in every way.
She never really believed in destiny, but it seemed that everything happened to justify this moment. Every accidental and intentional action led her to him.
She looked at him while walking down the aisle. Today will be the beginning of their journey together. She would never have to look back again because he will always be there with her.
She vowed to always love him and to never leave his side whatever happened. He promised to always protect her and to never hurt her.
The ceremony was over, but their lives have just begun.
