A Hermione and Draco Short Story
A/N: Ok, I couldn't help it; guess I was feeling emo- haha. Anyways, the lyrics of the song in this story which also happened to inspire this fic is "Superstar" by the Carpenters, later re-sung by Sonic Youth. I really love the song. LOVE LOVE. Love the Juno soundtrack too. I dedicate this to my hamster, Munchkin.

Stubbing his cigarette with the end of his worn out converses, he picked up the charred remains of the picture he once kept close to his heart.
…
"I promise, Draco."
Her eyes and lips had made a promise he thought she'd keep. He still remembered it as though it were yesterday. They held each other close for their last dance together.
Draco's heart swelled at the gift of hope. Her promise she swore to keep. Hermione's word was her reputation, if not then what?
As the chorus of their song drew on, he felt her arms stiffen, she cut the dance short and drew away. As Draco felt her flitter from his arms, he caught a glimpse of guilt and shame in her shiny brown orbs.
Perhaps his biggest fear was true then? Had the words hit home too well.
He tried to hold the moment, savour her presence just once more. As her fingers danced off his own finger tips, he clung onto her little finger, her pinky, the one that bound them together through a promise.
That was his wordless plea.
She saw his notion, glanced away roughly and withdrew violently from his touch. She swished out of the room gracefully, like a swan dance, towards Harry-fucking-Potter.
Still, he hung onto her promise. It was just a charade; soon, it would be over, once the Order won the war; which they would soon, especially after Draco's help with valuable information. Information he nearly died to get.

The lights were dim, shining sparsely on certain areas of the dance floor. Hermione Granger had just left Draco Malfoy's arms, the chorus would forever haunt him.
