Disclaimer: I do not own Assassin's Creed or any material related to Ubisoft in any way or form.
Note: I am very grateful to Littleminnie, whose fanfic "An Escort's Journey" inspired me to write my own.
I cannot recall just how it was I came to be an assassin. Most of my early childhood is blurred; truly unimportant to me. The only thing I can remember clearly is the awe and undying love a child feels when they find something they can comprehend fully, something stable and permanent in their life. Mine was the day I first set foot in the Masyaf assassin fortress.
Outside of our safe haven, they call us heretics. They abide by their laws and, given every chance, attempt to catch and kill us. Every time we evade, flying through the air with inhuman-like ability. (Of course, were they trained practically from birth, they would have our abilities as well). Our weapons can destroy armies, maim governments, even cripple countries. The lives we live are so different from those around us, yet it is the only one we know. We know we are strong, we know we can fight, and we know we are permanent.
This, we understand. This, we control. This is our legacy.
The Assassin's Creed.
