"Henri," Izzy called "dinner's ready!" Izzy, my pretentious older sister was home for the weekend from studying law at Harvard, whoop-di-doo. My real name is Henrietta, and hers is Isabella. Everyone calls me Henri because, let's face it, Henrietta's an old lady name and I call her Izzy just to irk her. Apparently my sister's too high and mighty to have a childish nickname.
Once I come through the back door we sit down to eat Izzy's favorite meal, salad with carrots and peas and basically every disgusting vegetable you can imagine. Apparently my sister is now a vegan.
After we are all seated, they begin discussing grades and classes while I count and name all of my mother's porcelain figurines. Slowly I feel my eyes drifting shut and my head bowing until I feel a sharp pain in my calf. I sit up quickly and nearly tip my chair backward. I realize I had dove head first into my salad and Izzy had kicked my shin.
" I was asking you how school was going for you?" she ground out through a clenched smile.
"Ummmm… let's see… I got out in the first round of dodgeball in PE because I wasn't paying attention and I got a D- on my math test…"
From that point on everything seemed to go in slow motion. I saw Izzy's eyes lift up from her salad in widened disappointment at the same time Mom and Dad lost it. Dad started hollering about how I should excel in PE just like his darling Isabella did while mom babbled on about how perfect Isabella got straight A's in all her classes.
I abruptly stood up and mumbled something about fresh air. Izzy started to speak but I was already out the door.
Once outside I took off in a sprint, not knowing where I would go. My black combat boots and forest green hoodie contrasted with my pale skin and wispy blonde hair. Damn this stupid dress mom made me wear I think.A white rabbit scampers onto the garden path in front of me. Having nowhere else to go I follow it. My rabbit friend disappears around I tree. Before I can skid to a stop the ground beneath me gives way and I begin to fall.
It seems like I fall for an eternity in darkness before the hole widens into some sort of cave, a burrow last thing I hear is the sickening crunch as my head hits the ground before the black spots take over my vision completely.
