What If She Remembered?
Third of the What If Series
Suppressing Kana's memories was the most difficult procedure I'd ever done. I fully realized it had been what was best for her and the worst for me. I was the Cursed one, so I didn't mind taking it upon myself. I'd never felt so alone in all my life.
Hatori pushed his notes aside, and brought his hands up to massage his temples. Since Kana had left, he'd thrown himself into his work. Keeping busy was the only way to fend off the heart ache. It threatened to consume him. He looked towards the window. Light filtered in through the blinds. Was it morning already? It was odd that he hadn't noticed the time tick by. Little wonder he was starting to get tired. He looked at his clock, and then his appointment book. Nothing until late morning. There was time for a nap.
Hatori lifted his heavy body from where it had sat all night. He set the alarm on his watch and walked back to his office, there was a couch there that had come in handy many times before this. Just as he lay down upon the leather, Hatori heard a loud knock at the front door. At first he continued on as if he'd not heard the knock. Maybe if he pretended he wasn't here they'd go away. If it had been an emergency at the Main House, he'd have been called on the phone.
He closed his eyes, trying to drift into sleep. The knock came again. He got the itching feeling at the back of his mind that there was something going on. He didn't feel right ignoring the knock. He forced himself up. The knock came again as he dragged his feet to the door. He opened the door, smiling nervously on the other side . . .
"Kana? What are you doing here at this hour?" Hatori asked, his heart tugging at him as he laid eyes upon the only woman he'd ever loved.
"I apologize for bothering you. But it couldn't wait. May I come in, it's very important." He could tell she was forcing herself to be strong.
"Of course," he said after a pause. He couldn't deny her. He moved back from the door, allowing Kana to enter. She closed the door after herself.
She stood facing him for a moment; Hatori could tell she was thinking. What could this possibly be about? "Hatori, you don't remember me mentioning I was going out with someone in the past few months do you? I can't remember a lot from working with you, it gets more fuzzy and confusing the more I look back at it. Did I mention being with any man at all . . ." she trailed off.
"Not that I knew of," Hatori's voice didn't waver.
"The only man I remember being around at all is you. I'm so very confused." she mumbled something soft.
"What are you trying to get at?"
"I don't remember how, or with who but," she sobbed, cradling her face in her hands. "Hatori, I'm pregnant."
This is the start of the Third story in the What If series. This will be a chapter fic, I haven't decided how long. I'll answer all the questions you probably have next chapter. I sincerely hope you enjoy it!
