MOH: RANGERS part II

"Capt. Harman! Capt. Harman!" The Captain's consciousness returned after a grenade exploded under and away from him. Harman stood up with bullets snapping and cracking near him. "McPherson! Get some sniper fire on those sand bags!" yelled Capt. Harman; "we need to get more men on top of that cliff". Harman again grabbed the rope, the now bloody and sandy rope. Following him, his second in command, Sergeant Jim Donovan, a 5' 7" man who was braver, meaner, and smarter than any one else. "Climb for your fucking lives you bastards!" cried out the Sergeant. Harman climbed and climbed and finally reached the top.

The scene at the top of Point du Hoc was one of horror and disbelief. Dead soldiers, both American and German, bomb craters turned into shelter, trenches and concrete bunkers spread all over the area. Harman stared in awe; approaching him was Cpl. Sam Koller, who yelled "The Guns aren't here sir!" Harman in disbelief said, "What the fuck do you mean the guns aren't here?" Koller repeated himself, "the guns are gone, krauts set up fake guns to fool us" Harman replied, "it worked". Harman reorganized his thoughts after the initial shock and shouted his orders, "we need to find those guns, second and third squads, and move up to that village." Harman led the squads along the hellish landscape; German soldiers, entrenched, fired their weapons, chewing the rangers up. Harman dropped inside a trench and fired his Thompson at close range. Above him and to the left was Pvt. Foreman, the BAR gunner. As Harman emerged from the trench, he was horrified at what he saw. A German quad-20mm anti-aircraft gun was spraying the rangers running towards the village. At the same time, a German soldier took aim at Harman.
