A Second Chance
L let the raindrops cascade off of him , the cool water drenching his thin form . His clothes hung close to him almost like a second skin. He had never put importance on things such as this but for some reason he felt compelled to do this . He closed his eyes and sighed " Tonight could be my last night alive…..how sad ." L mused to himself .
" Why would you say that Ryuzaki? Is there something you're not telling me? " a voice from behind asked .
L opened his eyes and looked back. He saw his first friend and most likely suspect in the Kira case, Light Yagami . His chestnut brown hair was matted down flat and his expensive suit was soaked from the rain and would most likely be ruined or at the least be wrinkled .
" I'm just thinking that that we don't know how much longer any of us have left ……….its almost futile to keep trying because of that , isn't it." L pondered out loud .
"Not really, but none of us are privy to that information so lets make the most of the time we have left allright? Now lets get you inside before you catch something that will kill you sooner than later " Light said as he put up the umbrella he had bought a few days earlier. The rain made a mini waterfall the detective had to pass thru , soaking him further.
L sighed and let light lead him inside, wishing he had ten more minutes of just standing in the rain , letting himself wash away slowly. The rain was calming although he was still very tense . He doubted ten years would have erased even a fraction of his weariness .
" Thank you Light , you're really a good friend ……….."L said as he dried his hair off , water collecting at his feet like a small pool. "I hope I'm wrong about what you really are ……….otherwise my success will cost you your life ." thought L as he motioned for the others to assemble in the main investigation room.
"you're such a fool L, tonight my final move is going to be made and then you're finished ! " thought light as he stared at his 'friend' Their silent game of chess was about to come to a close and then ……only one of them would stand tall.
Outside the pounded harder , while lightning flashed in the sky ……almost as if to signal the beginning of the end .
