Moriko had been going along with Yusuke's gang during their missions for a couple of months, and it seemed that she'd finally found a cause for her existence. She was becoming riddled with doubt and fear that her life was meaningless, that she was only meant to suffer and cause suffering. It was during this time that they'd come for her after Koenma sent Kurama to investigate a peculiar demon energy surge in Mushiyori City. His startling green eyes had captured her from the very moment they met, but she never once showed any sign of it. She regretted it now... Now that she was dying in his arms, bleeding out rapidly from what should have ended his life, not her's. And yet she lay staring up into the emerald orbs she always found comfort in, framed by the silky red hair she'd wanted to tangle her hands in for so long. His tears wrenched at her heart, but she did not regret the actions she made. He held her gaze through his tears, and before she slipped away into unconsciousness she had only the energy to mutter,"I'm sorry...", and then she was gone.
"I'm sorry..." and then he felt her go limp in his arms. His eyes opened wider, disbelief embossed in them. "No, please Moriko, no... You'll be alright, just stay with us... Stay with me, please... Moriko..." He held her tighter in his arms, tears now flooding down his porcelain cheeks, staining them in the cold night. Yusuke, Kuwabara and Hiei all stood at a distance, mourning the loss of their comrade, and for the heart-wrenching pain of another. Hiei was the only one who knew how deep their connection went, but all of them knew enough that they could sense Kurama's heart breaking. Hiei closed his eyes and nodded his head, even his eyes had began to water. He walked over to the corpse of the hideous demon he and Yusuke had killed. A grimace came across his face and he spat on its cold face. Without a glance back, he quickly turned and disappeared into the night. Kurama lifted her body off the ground and turned to face Yusuke and Kuwabara. His eyes were cold, almost lifeless... Yusuke took a couple steps toward him. "We need to get her to Genkai's temple." Kurama said bluntly. Yusuke simply nodded. He could not deny his heartbroken friend anything, and he knew they would all be better off there anyway. Kuwabara nodded as well, and together they set off into the night.
