Chapter One

"OH SUGAR HONEY!" I scream as a large Minotaur charges us. I quickly grab the hand of the petrified newbie and sprint as fast as I can. I can hear it's thundering hooves behind me. The beast roars with anguish, for I had previously stabbed him with my spear.

I glance back to see the Minotaur only five or 10 feet behind us. I also see tears running down the new recruits faces as I pull her along.

Up ahead is the arch leading to camp. We won't make it, I think, my nose scrunching up. I look at the camper and then at the gates and make my decision.

"RUN AS FAST YOU CAN!" I shout at the girl. Her spead picks up, and right as we reach a least 10 feet away, I fling the girl forward. I falter, hoping the boost was enough to save her. I feel the Minotaur grip my waist and squeeze. Tears fill my eyes as I look at Camp Half-Blood, home, one last time. Then great pain takes over me and I turn into dust.

Cassie runs like she's never ran before. And with an unexpected boost, she makes it through the arch. She laughs and hollers , so happy she made it.

"We did it Sydney! We really did it!" She exclaims. But her smile fades, looking around she sees no one, hears no one.

"Sydney?" She whimpers. She turns toward the gate just in time to see Sydney poof into dust.

"SYDNEY!" Cassie falls to her knees. The world starts to close in on her. It gets darker and darker until...

Cassie opens her eyes to see herself in an unfamiliar territory. She try's to think back to where she was before. I was running from a... from a... a Minotaur! I was running with Sydney! Wait, Sydney. She whispers Sydney's name under her breath as she remembers the last events.

She looks around, trying to find something familiar, but there was nothing. She was in a cabin sort of thing, that had lots of beds and calming colors. People were shuffling around going to each bed that Cassie now realized, had patients in them.

A nurse then came over to her. Once she saw Cassie was awake she smiled.

"Good, your finally up," she cooed. She had short curly blonde hair, fair skin, and blue eyes you could get lost in. The nurse was wearing a, well, nurses garb and a bandanna around her head. Her looks contrasted Cassie's highly, for Cassie had long black hair, dark skin, and almost back eyes.

The nurses makeup was also at its peak while Cassie rarely ever wore makeup.

Again the nurse smiled at her.

"You've been out for 2 days!" The nurse said rather too cheerfully for this predicament. Cassie eyes widened.

"Two days?! What, how?" The nurse purses her lips.

"You went through a lot dear, you needed it," she said calmly. Cassie frowned. She then realized that she was wearing only a robe. Her neck and ears flushed, but she had better things to do than be embarrassed.

"Where's Sydney?" She asks slowly, not sure if she want to hear the answer.

"She, um, well she's kinda gone," the nurse said biting her lip. But before Cassie could respond, the nurse continued, "Now get some rest dear, alright? Get some rest." And with a touch of the nurses hand Cassie went to sleep.
