Title: Not Fair
Author: Brevanna
Summary: While trying to protect Harry from Sirius Black Minerva McGonagall reflects on the boy he used to be and how unfair life is.
Disclaimer: Nope not mine.
It wasn't fair.
Ask any parent they'll tell, you life's not fair.
It isn't like a fairytale, good doesn't always triumph over evil. Innocent people die and formally innocent people betray them. That's the way the world works.
I didn't always know that If you had of told me thirteen years ago that we'd be defending the castle from Sirius Black, an escaped convict sent to Azkaban for the murders of thirteen muggles and little Peter Pettigrew one of his best friends and fellow Marauder, you would have been in Saint Mungos within the hour.
But that's what happened, in an instant everything changed.
Even now thirteen years later I'm still in shock, no one saw it coming. It's easier for people that don't know him to explain what happened, those who had never seen the way he cared for his friends or how genuine his smile was. They all think it's obvious he's a Black, Purebloods who care for none but themselves. Once a Black always a Black.
It's harder for us that knew him, for we all he know was never really like his family, he'd left them and there nasty Slytherin ways first chance he got, he was a Gryffindor through and through. I guess that's why it never made sense. Now so many years later we try to look back at the time when we knew him and try to add an edge, a menace to the things he's done. We try to make funny, brash, arrogant, charming and loyal to the end Sirius Black into something evil. Something we can understand.
But he was just a sweet little boy. Okay more like a little hellion, But that doesn't mean he was bad. I mean really how bad could a boy be who had no problem accepting his friend being a werewolf, even willing to become an Animagus for him!
Nonetheless if you were to ask me now whether or not I thought Sirius to be guilty I would say yes. But truly deep down I don't think he did it. He's not capable of it. I don't think he could do that to James his best friend, his brother and little tag along Peter Pettigrew who he defended against all. In my heart I know he would die before he hurt them.
But it doesn't change anything.
What I think doesn't matter. If I see him I'll hand him over to the Dementors, but not before I ask him why. Why he betrayed Lily and James, why he killed Peter, and why he's after Harry.
I will not rest until I know everything
