'I hope that your neighbors aren't going to be too pissed off at us.' Johnny says before lighting off several m80's and grabs Carly, getting a safe distance before they go off, both of them laughing when the neighbors start screaming.
'Oh,man! I think that we might've scared the hell out of the elderly couple down the street.' Carly says before they hear an old lady shout at them. 'Hey there, Mrs Anderson! Happy fourth of july!' She shouts back, smiling. 'You damn rotten kids! Making all that noise and almost giving me a heart attack!' The old lady shouts, shaking her walking stick at them before walking back into her house, cursing about the younger generation having no respect for their elders.
'Is she going to be ok? She looked like she wanted to knock us into next week.' Johnny says in between laughter as Carly grabs the firecrackers, sets them in the street and lights them. 'Fire!' Carly says before she and Johnny run a few feet away as the firecrackers explode.
'Man, i love the fourth of july and yes, Mrs. Anderson will calm down eventually. Either that or she'Il call the cops on us!' She says as Johnny puts his arms around her shoulders, resting his head against her left one.
'I remember the fireworks back in North Yankton. One of the few days out of the year that the city didn't look so dark. Everyone running around laughing...i never wanted that part of my life to end but it did.' She says.
'When Gionna was younger, my brother and i would take her to the beach on Firefly Island. She'd stare at the fireworks and i would look at her and see this look on her face, like she never wanted to grow up.' Johnny says.
'To you, she'll always be that kid that you love like a little sister. Just like in my dad's eyes, i'll always be his little girl.' Carly says as she rests her head against Johnny's shoulder, feeling like an innocent kid again.
(If your confused about the girl that Johnny mentioned, Gionna is one of my characters from Missing hours:a teenage horror story and In the air tonight. Happy fourth of july.)
