May lay in bed, her head feeling like it was stuffed full of cotton wool. She had a cold, and as well as her head feeling full, her nose was blocked and kept running, so she had to constantly wipe it, making it very sore after a bit, as well as feeling shivery and boiling hot at the same time, feeling weak and shaky and her head aching too.

She tossed and turned, trying to get comfortable. She would have to stay in bed until her cold was better, and she felt bored having to lie there all day. May was a very outdoors type of person after all. She loved competing in contests and battling Pokémon and other trainers, so it was very boring having to stay in all the time.

She flipped her pillow over, looking for a cool spot, before lying back and closing her eyes. She felt very tired, but somehow couldn't sleep, so she just rested her eyes for a bit.

She must have fell asleep for a bit, because she woke to the sound of voices coming from downstairs. She heard her dad, Norman, talking to someone else. A voice that seemed familiar, but she couldn't guess who it was.

She listened for a bit, wondering who it was.

"Yes, you can go up and see May, but please be aware that she has a cold. I don't want you coming down it with too." She heard her dad warning who he was speaking to.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine." The other voice said cheerily.

Then she heard the sound of feet on the stairs. "May! Guess who's coming to see you?" The voice from downstairs sang as their feet bumped on the stairs.

There was a knock on the door. "Can I come in?"

"Come in" May replied.

Suddenly,May immediately knew who it was.

"Brendan?"

"Who else would it be?" He replied, grinning, as he came in. "I hadn't seen for for a bit, and I was worried, then your dad said you were poorly, so I came to visit."

"Thanks for coming." May replied simply, lying back on her pillow and closing her eyes.

"Oh dear, I can see you are quite poorly." Brendan said, noticing Mays fatigue. He pulled off his backpack and opened it, reaching in. He pulled out a large flat box that was wrapped in wrapping paper. "Maybe these might make you feel better?" He added, with a grin on his face, holding out the box to May.

May took the box and began to unwrap it, revealing a big box of chocolates.

May grinned in delight. "Thanks Brendan!" She squealed. She opened the box and picked out her favourite white chocolate with strawberry filling and popped it in her mouth. She offered the box to Brendan, but he politely refused. "They're yours May, you eat them." He replied, smiling.

Just then, Norman called up the stairs. "Brendan, you'd better be getting home now."

"Oops, yes. I forgot, I have to help my dad with his field work later." Brendan said, looking slightly annoyed that he hadn't been there that long.

"It's ok, you'd better go and do that then." May replied.

"Well, I'll see you then." Brendan said. The expression on his face changed, as if he was thinking about something. "I'd hug you to say goodbye, but I don't want to catch the cold off you. You heard what Norman said." Brendan added suddenly.

"Yes, I did." May sighed. She placed the box of chocolates on the side and went to fluff up her pillow, when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

"Aww, come here." Brendan quickly said, holding out his arms.

May sat up and put her arms around him and he hugged back, stroking her on the back with his hand.

"I hate seeing people ill." He added, holding her close. They broke apart and May lay back down in bed, and Brendan pulled the duvet up over her.

"Thats it, try and sleep. I'll come back tomorrow. I will be able to stay longer then as I won't have anything else to go to." He assured, before he had to go.

May smiled to herself, as she snuggled under the covers and fell asleep, glad that she had a good friend who cared.

They were in each others thoughts for the rest of the day.
