It was the oddest thing to me at that moment, though later it would make perfect sense. Right in the aftermath of Neville's caldron exploding, he never looked more beautiful to me. He was laughing with such a carefree abandon and the light was bouncing off his hair in most delightful way. Then our eyes met and I knew my world would never be the same again. Seven years of crushing on him would not be for nothing.
For some reason the exploding caldron was more funny than usual. Probably because the night before Sev had told me that he thought Neville was improving. It also might have been because of the priceless look of shock on the boys face. Suddenly I just had to know if he thought that this was funny to. Our eyes locked and it became shockingly apparent to me that he felt the same. It made a sense of urgency bloom in my body. One I was going to listen to for once.
Severus watched from the corner of his eye as the two boys freeze for a moment. It took years of self control to keep from shouting 'finally!' Then they went into motion, moving towards each other with a growing need to be close, to confirm what they thought was real. It seemed to the rest of the class that once they reached each other no one else existed. Harry pulled Draco's face to his and they kissed like that they would die if they weren't connected by their lips. The rest of the seventh year class fell into absolute silence. The dark lord could have stormed into the room and no one would have made a sound. It seemed Severus was the only that seen that coming. Then again, after being in the same situation many years ago, to Severus, the fighting was just foreplay leading up to this.
When they finally break apart they are laughing and the words they had kept hidden for too long came spilling out. "I love you."
