The Night Furys are the only dragons that are extremely close to extinction. Only one species has gone extinct, the Red Death! The Red Death dragons went into extinction because of starvation and by the last one by lighting himself on fire while trying to eat toothless. The Night Furys went into extreme endangerment before the extinction of their only natural predator that could do any severe damage.
One day the Red Death family was out raiding Berk, toothless was still in an egg and his parents were watching him like hawks. While the Red Death family came back with empty stomachs and an egg ready to hatch they were frantic trying to get food because their babies are ravenous eaters. Once they saw the egg, they got a sick idea, EAT TOOTHLESS!
